Job Description
As a Unit Leader, you will be responsible for building positive relationships with campers, coaching them to build relationships, try new things, and ensure their safety. You will also work closely with coworkers, supervisors, and parents to provide a supportive and empowering environment for all team members.
Responsibilities:
- Build nurturing relationships with campers
- Develop cooperative relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and parents
- Support the Director and fellow counselors in behavior management and activities during daily trips
- Foster character-building engagement with campers
- Uphold the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Courage
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- At least 20 years old
- Be willing and able to obtain CPR & First Aid Certifications or currently hold them
- Be available to attend camp trainings before and during the camp season
- A patient, caring, responsible, flexible, and positive attitude
- Experience working or volunteering with youth in a recreation or similar setting (preferred)
- Previous experience as a camp counselor (minimum 2 years) (preferred)
- Lifeguard certification (preferred) or willingness to obtain it
Position Specifics
The camp season runs from June 30th to August 15th, and you must be able to work a majority of the camp weeks. Year-round employment opportunities are available with the YMCA.
Salary
The salary for this position is $16-$18 depending on experience.
