DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Purchasing Agent (PA) is responsible for assisting the Director of Purchasing with all Company procurement activities, including purchasing materials, equipment and subcontractors to support the Engineering, Operations, and Administrative departments of the Company and its various lines of business, including: (1) in-house and commercial vessel ship maintenance and repair; (2) tugboat operations; and (3) new vessel construction.
The PA shall be responsible for:
· Implementation, use, and future modification of the computerized purchasing system;
· Negotiating with all vendors, suppliers and subcontractors in order to obtain best pricing, vendor sourcing and delivery;
· Coordination and support of the purchasing requirements of the Company, as directed by the Shipyard General Manager, Superintendents, Engineers and Operations staff;
· Coordination and support of the purchasing requirements for the Operations and Engineering Departments, and the Company’s Port Representatives in our ports, as well as support for the operating affiliates of The Great Lakes Group;
· Providing reports and analysis by line of business or project, as applicable, on purchasing history, forecasts, and variances from budget, including weekly or monthly progress meetings for tug and barge construction projects;
· Creation and management of inventories;
· Planning and purchasing of all components necessary to support the various lines of business and projects;
· Providing input for the development of estimates, progress tracking, and cost control management for all shipyard new construction and repair projects, commercial contracts, and routine fleet maintenance, repairs, and programs;
· Negotiating subcontracts and major purchases of equipment and systems in accordance with vessel specifications and other requirements for all new construction and repair projects;
· Developing material take-offs and Bills of Material from engineering drawings as required. The PA will maintain a communication link and coordinate between engineering and project management;
· Material control, shipping and receiving, inventory management, and verification that materials and equipment meet the as-ordered specifications;
· Soliciting bids, generating purchase orders, maintaining a purchasing data base, and performing varied assignments, as directed by the Company. Occasional assignments may require travel, however the position is based in Cleveland, Ohio;
· Maintain accurate purchasing documentation using Company purchasing software to include entry of purchase order (PO) documenting/recording follow-up, maintaining accurate estimated delivery dates, expediting delivery, annotation of receipts, and attaching documentation to purchase order file.
· Receive material and verify material received and ensure it corresponds to the material specifications of the PO.
· Coordinate the purchase of office supplies and office equipment, kitchen supplies and maintain accurate inventory of these items.
· Assist with monitoring Tool Room.
· Pick up and deliver to the shipyard approved parts and supplies from local vendors.
· Assist the Accounting Specialist with the loading of documentation recording contracts and payments to vendors.
· Assist with the matching, correcting, and entry of invoices for payment.
· Keep track of receipts made with corporate purchasing card.
· Perform additional assignments as directed.

· 3-4 years of purchasing and warehousing experience preferred;
· Excellent negotiation skills;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Ability to prioritize tasks;
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
