The GreenMount School, located in the Remington neighborhood of Baltimore, is a K-8 institution dedicated to providing a creative education emphasizing multicultural, cooperative, and experiential learning, supported by strong family participation. PE Teacher/Recess Monitor Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, challenging, and developmentally appropriate lessons for grades K-3 (part-time) or K-8 (full-time), aligned with the GreenMount mission and philosophy.
  • Ensure the PE curriculum is aligned with the Maryland Physical Education Framework, including instruction in fitness, wellness, and sports.
  • Prioritize the safety of students in all settings.
  • Encourage maximum participation for all students; differentiate as needed to ensure all students experience success.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners, considering varying aptitudes, developmental stages, and learning styles.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure curriculum alignment, including participation in regular vertical team and student support meetings.
  • Embrace a flexible and responsive teaching approach of working in a child-centered school balanced with scaffolded systems that support executive function skills.
  • Establish and uphold classroom routines that resonate with our core values: Engage, Include, and Care.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and effective communication among staff members.
  • Actively monitor recess for grades K-3 and 4-8, adhering to all GreenMount policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.


Qualifications


The ideal candidate will be warm and energetic, have excellent communication skills, and possess an entrepreneurial work ethic.  Previous experience teaching is required, and experience in an independent school setting with an understanding of progressive education is a plus.


  • At least three years of teaching experience in the elementary grades
  • Experience using, adapting, and creating curriculum for elementary learners
  • A commitment to progressive pedagogy
  • A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
  • A fundamental belief that all children can learn, grow, and succeed
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to provide executive functioning and organizational support to lower elementary students
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with parents and colleagues


Compensation and Benefits


The salary for this part-time position ranges from $18,000-$28,000 annually and is commensurate with education and experience. This position is eligible for full-time benefits including personal and sick leave benefits. A comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, a tuition remission program, a 403b matching program, and life insurance.
