Gallery Attendant – “Above and Beyond”

“Above & Beyond” is a traveling exhibit coming to the Greensboro Science Center in May of 2025. The exhibit celebrates the power of innovation to make dreams take flight. Attendants create memorable moments for guests of all ages by facilitating informal educational opportunities in the traveling exhibit. This is a flexible schedule for 20 hours per week and requires weekend availability. The gallery attendants work within the Education Department.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Provide a high level of customer service to guests at all times
- Educate guests regarding content within the exhibit
- A full training will be made available prior to start date
- Answer any and all questions guests may have
- Document any problems seen in the traveling exhibit space and/or on exhibit components
- Ensure guests are acting responsibly in the exhibit
- Dress appropriately for the day's activities and adhere to the GSC dress code
- Respond to emergency situations in a safe and appropriate manner
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Greensboro Science Center
- Perform other duties as assigned
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for working with volunteers of all ages. Candidates should also be well-organized, comfortable speaking to groups, and have a positive, energetic, outgoing demeanor. Candidates must have excellent communication skills with the public and possess great interpersonal skills. Starting rate is $10.25/hour.
Position Criteria
- Criminal background check required for all employees before beginning employment
- Ability to move through the exhibit to assist and interpret interactives for guests
- Safely and comfortably navigate uneven surfaces including gravel, grass, hills, and stairs
- Able to work well with a team
- Capable of providing leadership and guidance
- Must have good communications skills
- Able to lead in stressful situations
- Be responsible for the safety of yourself and guests in the exhibit
- Good time management skills
- Willing to follow directions from others
Required Schedule
- This position is temporary (Mid-May – September 1), shifts are scheduled seven days a week.
- Shifts are 8:45 AM - 1:00 PM, 12:45 - 5:00 PM or 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM (with a lunch break).
- These hours may change as needed throughout the season.
- Occasional evening opportunities may be available.
