Description

The Family Therapist is responsible for providing mental health treatment and case management services. Services are delivered in the home or community based on the needs and preferences identified by the family. Must be willing/able to work a non-traditional schedule based on the needs of the families served. Must be able to deliver Treatment Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) clinical services and implement interventions that within the fidelity of the model. Must be able to deliver behavioral therapy that targets school behavior and family behavior.  In addition to providing family-centered services, the TFCO Family Therapist is responsible to help families to develop collaborative relationships with other human service organizations and people or agencies in the community who can help to enhance and maintain a viable support network for the family after services have ended. The TFCO Family Therapist is responsible to help coordinate and integrate services that are provided to families by multiple service providers and to identify and eliminate barriers to effective service delivery. Must maintain flexible work schedules and cell phone as needed. Will need to be available to TFCO clients 7 days a week, 24 hours per day as needed for on-call rotation. Must possess a “whatever it takes” mentality in delivering services to families. 


This position comes with a $3,000 sign-on bonus.


Specific Responsibilities

1. Provide weekly family therapy to TFCO families utilizing the TFCO treatment model. This includes introducing new behavioral coping and parenting skills and practices these in sessions utilizing strategic positive reinforcement and coaching interventions

2. Engage primary caregiver and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment;

3. Engage participants to identify and overcome barriers to engagement;

4. Develop therapeutic relationships with  families;

5. Provide direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with TFCO model;

6. Provide family therapy;

7. Attends weekly clinical team meetings;

8. Provide after hours on call back up for the Team Leader for 24/7 availability as needed;

9. Provide parents and caregivers psychoeducation and resources pertaining to child and family development;

10. Parent education, coaching and training;

11. Coordinate services with mental health and medical professionals, including psychiatrists, physicians, and nurses;

12. Facilitate collateral contacts with representatives from schools and other community organizations on behalf of children and families;

13. Model effective self-advocacy and assertive communication skills;

14. Advocate on behalf of families to help them meet their needs and achieve their desired level of independence and self-sufficiency;

15. Assist families with basic needs, including, but not limited to, food, clothing, shelter, childcare;

16. Link families with resources available in the community;

17. Provide transportation as needed;

18. Assist families in scheduling psychiatric evaluations and medication reviews with Psychiatrist once child returns home

19. Help to identify and eliminate barriers to services;

20. Help to enhance existing community services and develop new services based on the needs of families;

21. Assess client satisfction;

22. Work collaboratively with a team of professionals and paraprofessionals;

23. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with people and organizations in the community;

24. Make referrals to Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services as needed;

25. Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, case consultations and training as needed;

26. Complete clinical documentation in an timely manner consistent with policies and procedures of The Guidance Center; develop, maintain and review complete case records;

27. Provide individual, family and group therapy; crisis intervention; case management;

28. Participate in program evaluation and program development initiatives;

29. Participate in all TFCO training, Supervision, and Consultation activities;

30. Seek consultation with the Supervisor as needed;

31. Complete 25 hours of program and or job specific training on an annual basis;

32. Complete a minimum of 15 hours billable service hours per week;

33. Other duties as necessary;

Requirements

  • Must have a Master’s Degree or higher and be a Psychologist (TLLP, LLP, or LP) TLLP supervised by a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC or LPC) LLPC supervised by a Licensed Professional Counselor,  Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or Limited Licensed Master's Social Worker (LLMSW) supervised by a Licensed Master's Social Worker, and must possess and retain current licensure in the State of Michigan. 
  • Must meet Michigan Department of Community Health requirements of a Child Mental Health Professional within 120 days of hire. 
  • Must have at a minimum of 1 year of experience in the examination, evaluation and treatment of minors and their families.
  • Additional requirements include: a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of individual families, the ability to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with families, the ability to develop collaborative relationships with other providers, effective interpersonal communication skills, the ability to assess and intervene within complex family and community systems, and a willingness to be flexible, patient and creative. 
  • Must have a favorable driving record and be able to obtain a chauffeur’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Preferred experience includes working with families, working within a team environment, administering social skills assessments and interventions, direct use of pragmatic (i.e. structural, strategic, and functional) family therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy with children and adults, Wayne County CMH services, and electronic medical records.
