Job Description: We are seeking a self-motivated and organized diesel mechanic to join our team. Your primary responsibility will be to repair and maintain electric, diesel, and gasoline vocational trucks. This will involve reading job orders, observing and listening to trucks in operation to determine malfunctions, and planning work procedures. You will also be responsible for installing new ignition systems, aligning front wheels, changing or recharging batteries, replacing transmissions and other parts, and replacing gas or diesel engines. Additionally, you will examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and adjust them as necessary. You will also lubricate and service vehicles, fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to schematic drawings, perform collision repair, sand, prep, and paint, complete all standard maintenance on trucks and equipment, and ensure state inspection requirements are met for cars, trucks, and trailers.
Required Skills and Qualifications: To be successful in this role, you must have a one-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school in diesel mechanics or a related field, or two years of related experience and/or training. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. You must also have a Class A or B CDL or be able to obtain one within one year. A clean driving record is also required. Strong customer service and teamwork skills are essential, as well as mathematical skills to compute rate, ratio, percent, draw, and interpret bar graphs. You must be willing and able to work a 2nd- or 3rd-shift schedule, fit test, and utilize appropriate PPE as needed, and meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, etc.).
Physical Demands: This position requires occasional standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, climbing, balancing, and crawling. You will frequently stoop, crouch, kneel, and use hands to finger, feel, and grasp. Occasionally, you will lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
