TITLE: Lifeguard
REPORTS TO: Property Manager
JOB STATUS: Part Time (Seasonal), Non-Exempt (Hourly)
SALARY GRADE: 1
SALARY RANGE: $14.40-$21.60
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lifeguard’s primary responsibility is to maintain swimmer safety for residents and guests of Riedman Properties. Lifeguards are also responsible for monitoring water conditions and general pool maintenance, enforcing safety rules and paying close attention to swimmer activities and behavior.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Greets all people who visit the pool and collects appropriate visitor fees or punch passes from long term visitors.
- Utilizes resident log to check residents and guests in and out of the pool area.
- Maintains a constant surveillance of patrons in the water.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Acts quickly and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Maintains and submits to management a log of activities/incidents as they occur in the pool area.
- Performs general pool maintenance by taking assigned chlorine and ‘ph’ readings and accurately records results, monitors pressure gauges and skims and vacuums the pool.
- Opens and closes the pool according to the Health Department codes.
- Maintains a clear and safe pool deck area.
- Presents a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Records daily weather conditions.
- Ensures the landscaping area is cleaned of litter and weeds.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must have successfully completed lifeguard training.
- First Aid and CPR certifications are required.
- 6 months to 1-year experience as a lifeguard highly preferred.
- Proficient in interacting and communicating with people of various ages.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Ability to maintain a safe environment for residents and guests.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in an outdoor swimming pool environment where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment and furniture or children and adults who may require removal from the pool. Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push, and pull materials and equipment. The position works outdoors and is exposed to variable weather conditions. Other exposures may include chlorine, acids, and other pool maintenance chemicals.
