Our Staff Counsel office is currently seeking a litigation Attorney for its Indianapolis office . Admission in good standing to the Indiana Bar is required, with immediate eligibility to obtain admission without examination to the Ohio Bar (eligibility requirements vary). This position follows a hybrid work schedule that allows for 2 or 3 days of remote work each week with the balance of time being in the office.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Investigates and manages cases of low exposure and complexity in civil litigation from the inception of the lawsuit until conclusion through dismissal, settlement or trial. Works with adjuster and clients to resolve claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible. This is a Full Time / Exempt position.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
Handles a high volume caseload consisting of small cases of low exposure and complexity
Meets with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases in the most cost effective manner
Answers and develops theories and affirmative defenses to incoming lawsuits
Engages in routine motion practice, discovery and research
Handles routine trials and arbitrations of moderate exposure
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
Minimum 5 years litigation experience
Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR and an ability to maintain confidentiality
Admitted to the bar and must be licensed to practice law in Ohio and Indiana
25% Travel required for in-person appearances as necessary.

Communication: Has a knowledge and ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts and opinions with one or more persons and to effectively translate legal language and ideas into layman's terms
Organization Skills: Must have the ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to effectively maximize productivity Desired skills and experience:
Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendar
Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters and other claims professionals and support staff
Investigative Skills: Has an ability to follow up step by step on inquiry or observation; to trace or track, search or examine with care and accuracy. Specifically, must take evidence that may be used in reaching a legal conclusion
Legal Research: Must demonstrate the ability to locate cases, treaties, codified laws and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law and to draw a reasonable and accurate conclusion or render an opinion there from
Courtroom Skills: Has appropriate courtroom behavior, attire and decorum and is familiar with the rules and regulations that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law or other legal forums and tribunals. Dedication to providing the highest professional service to clients and claims professionals
