Description
The Harker School, a private TK - 12, located in San Jose, CA, seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, benefited position as a Personal Computer Support Specialist. This is an entry-level position; estimated hourly range: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for assuring that end users’ technological resources are functioning effectively. This includes performing a variety of duties to carry out the work of the Information Technology Services and Support Department. Technology tasks will be organized and allocated by the Information Technology Support and Services Manager. Tasks typically include basic hardware and software troubleshooting, aiding in the installation of new hardware and software, providing basic support for end users and, support for the ITSS department.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- As first level support for users, work on assigned tasks and update information on daily repetitive tasks.
- Provide excellent diagnostics to support prompt resolution of customer problems
- Respond to emergency requests as directed
- Effectively judge when a given task needs to be escalated or additional help/resources are required
- Assist in the Installation of technological equipment and software
- Assist in assuring an accurate inventory is maintained
- Collaborate effectively
- Maintain accurate records of all actions
- Assist in network wiring, connections, etc.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
- Ensures that work area is clean, secure and well maintained.
- Performs miscellaneous clerical functions and special projects as assigned.
- Makes recommendations to the Technology Support and Services Manager.
May also include one or more of the following on an individual basis:
- Equipment/Software use documentation – Creates/acquires appropriate training resources for distribution to our community.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, operating systems and network components. (Knowledge of multiple versions of multiple OSs is particularly helpful)
- Ability to quickly research, learn, and apply new skills from texts, Internet sources, peer/supervisor observation, direct instruction or other resources.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
- Ability to communicate in effective English in person, by telephone, and electronically.
- Hear individuals, groups, telephone and intercom communications, public address announcements, emergency signals, etc.
- Comfortably and ergonomically use computer equipment (input devices, display devices, and output devices) for a full workday.
- Differentiate between colors, specifically in cabling and jacks.
- Lift equipment up to 60 lbs above chest.
- Maneuver in confined spaces, as required with network racks, closets, and wiring chases.
- Work on a ladder and in elevated areas such as ceiling tiles and rooftops.
- Quickly respond to the site of network or systems emergencies.
- Provide transportation with room for multiple medium sized items between physical sites and outside establishments to respond to location-specific issues or repair needs.
- Knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of technical support for end user devices. Performs tasks as assigned. Solves problems using well-established procedures.
Working Conditions
- Extended computer use throughout workweek, and as additional projects dictate further usage beyond normal working hours.
- Work in a variety of other user’s work areas while addressing their systems’ needs.
