Estimated hourly range: $21.00 - $25.00/hour

We offer an academically focused TK - 5 Summer Camp; the Summer Institute for Middle and High School-aged students; and our English Language Institute for international students. Position Summary
Provide a positive environment for swim students to learn and develop aquatics skills. Plan and supervise aquatics lessons and program that contribute to swim school goals and individual student development. The aquatic specialists are responsible for ensuring the safety of the swimmers by preventing and responding to emergencies; by teaching and overseeing swimming lessons, and maintaining the safe operation in an aquatic environment. A thorough knowledge of their specific aquatic setting is required. All instructors will be responsible for evaluating the swimming skills of their students and providing an appropriate program for growth. In addition, a basic knowledge of other camp responsibilities is necessary.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age and completed one year of college.
- Hold current Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor certificates preferred.
- Hold current CPR/FPR and First Aid certification.
- Must have prior experience teaching children in an aquatic setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct aquatics programs to promote self-esteem and encourage success.
- Provide opportunities for each swimmer to meet the established goals of the aquatics program.
- Understand and enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Develop a list of goals and objectives for individual swimming lessons.
- Prepare and organize specific lesson plans for a variety of skills.
- Complete evaluations of students swim skills according to the Red Cross Standards.
- Articulate student swim abilities and skills to parents as needed
- Participate in on site training.
- Supervise in scheduled areas on deck as needed throughout the day.
- Attend staff training and all meetings.
- Plan and implement aquatics activities for the 6-8 summer program and ELI program.
- Assist in the set up of and clean up of pool area
- Set a good example for students and others including, punctuality, dress, language, and behavior.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
- Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary direction and instruction to campers.
- Ability to communicate and train students and staff in safety regulations and emergency procedures in their specific area.
- Abilities to observe student behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the position.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and emergency responses.
- Cognitive and communication abilities to assist in the planning and implementing the activity to achieve camper development objectives.
Working Conditions
- May be subject to extended periods of time standing or walking.
- Majority of time may be spent outside resulting in exposure to extremes in either heat or cold as weather and temperatures vary.
- Lift equipment/supplies weighing 20 pounds.
- Stand up and reach, bend down to interact with children
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and emergency responses.
- Cognitive and communication abilities to safely supervise and manage students while at play.
