The Harris Center is seeking a dynamic Chief People Officer (CPO) to join our dynamic executive team. The Chief People Officer (CPO) is responsible for overseeing and leading the organization’s People and Talent functions. The CPO may also serve as a liaison to the Board of Trustees and provide leadership in key areas that may include Communications and Government Affairs
This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in employee relations and employment law, along with a strong background in core Human Resources functions, including employee engagement, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, payroll, wellness programming and organizational development. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CPO plays a critical role in shaping the organizational culture, driving employee engagement, and ensuring alignment with the company’s overall mission and business objectives.

The HARRIS CENTER is the state-designated Local Mental Health Authority and Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Authority serving Harris County, Texas. As the largest behavioral and developmental disability care center in Texas, The Harris Center provided care to over 96,000 people in fiscal year 2023!
As part of its mission to transform the lives of people with behavioral health and IDD needs in the third largest county in the United States, The HARRIS CENTER provides a full continuum of services at 86 different sites across Harris County. In addition, services are provided in more than 40 different languages as well as sign language in order to better serve what is one of the most diverse and multi-cultural communities in the nation.

- Conflict Resolution: Skilled in mediating disputes and resolving conflicts in a fair and constructive manner.
- Change Management: Expertise in managing organizational change, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adaptation.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze data related to HR functions and employee engagement, using metrics to drive decisions and improvements.
- Cultural Competency: Strong understanding of how to build and maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage large-scale initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, with the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Digital Transformation: Experience in implementing HR technology solutions, including, but not limited to, HRIS systems, employee engagement platforms, or digital communications tools.
- Executive Coaching: Proven ability to coach and develop senior leaders, enhancing leadership capabilities at the executive level.
- Crisis Management: Experience in handling HR crises, such as organizational restructuring, reduction in force, or significant workplace incidents, with sensitivity and care.
- People Skills: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with people at all levels.
- Ethical Practice: Commitment to ethical behavior and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
What We Are Looking For:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Management Science, or a related field required.
- A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Human Resources, Organizational Development, Management, or a related field is required. Candidates with an advanced degree in another discipline, coupled with extensive leadership experience in human resources, organizational strategy, or people operations, will also be considered.
- Certifications such as SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional), SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), or other similar certifications are strongly preferred.
- 10 years of progressively responsible experience in HR, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles (Director, VP, or above).
- Experience in working in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
