Brief Description
The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Diversion Coordinator to join our Community Assistance and Resource Program (CARP) team! The Community Assistance and Resource Program (CARP) identifies, engages, and links individuals with a history of mental health concerns that are being released from HSCO custody on bond and provides them with a needs assessment to identify and link community resources that are available to the inmate prior to release. Inmates with a behavioral health concern who are anticipated for release can also be engaged for individual and group services to help ease their transition back into the community. CARP also provides assistance to individuals who have bonded out with parking, transportation, and childcare services to reduce barriers to the individual appearing in court. CARP also supports the Jail Diversion Desk in screening inmates waiting to be processed into HCSO custody for a possible diversion.
Under the general direction of the Diversion Navigator, this position is responsible for clinical assessments and screenings for patients being issued a General Order Bond that may have a Mental Health Indicator. Referrals and recommendations for treatment will be based on patient needs. Services are provided at the Harris County Jail.

Your Role In Action
- Performs clinical assessments to evaluate the individual’s need for Mental Health services and community support.
- Completes reporting in an accurate and timely manner as designated.
- Documents all findings in the medical record within required deadlines.
- Communicates and works with court staff/consumers/other staff in a manner that demonstrates sensitivity to cultural diversities.
- Performs related work as assigned and adapts to changing work requirements.
- Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities.
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent in the human services field (psychology, sociology, etc.).
- 2 years working in the field of mental health preferred.
- Basic understanding of what mental illness is, common signs, symptoms and able to identify difficulties with coping in community settings.
- Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise, well-constructed and grammatically correct.
- Able to work collaboratively with others in a teamwork environment.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Local resource knowledge preferred.
