As the HR Generalist (ADA Consultant), you will be a key advocate for ensuring equitable accommodations for employees and applicants, enabling them to perform essential job functions and fully enjoy the benefits of employment. This role requires a proactive, empathetic, and knowledgeable professional who can guide individuals and leaders through the interactive process while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
Your Role In Action
- Fair and Consistent Implementation: Apply accommodation policies fairly and consistently across the organization.
- Providing Guidance: Offer expert advice to employees, applicants, and supervisors throughout the interactive process.
- Issuing Response Letters: Draft formal response letters for reasonable accommodation requests.
- Tracking Requests: Conduct initial intake and maintain accurate records of all accommodation requests.
- Consulting with Others: Provide guidance to decision-makers and other involved parties.
- Processing Requests: Handle accommodation requests, including procuring necessary items and services through the Centralized Accommodation Fund (CAF).
- Keeping Individuals Updated: Maintain open communication with individuals throughout the process.
- Confirming with the Individual: Validate accommodation needs directly with the individual when third-party requests are involved.
- Consulting for Information: Gather essential information from personnel or external sources to make informed determinations.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Professional Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of the ADA, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant laws.
- Familiarity with assistive technology applications (e.g., screen readers, speech recognition tools).
- Experience working with assistive technology users and understanding their needs.
- Creative problem-solving skills to develop innovative accommodations.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in human resources or a related field, managing the ADA/interactive process. PHR, CP, SPHR, or SCP certification preferred.
- Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and the ability to serve as a role model.
- Additional Requirements:
- Experience mentoring and training others in assistive technology.
- Willingness to travel to local facilities as needed.
- Experience with benefits guidance, vocational coaching, or related fields is highly valued.
