Brief Description

The Harris Center is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented HR Generalist (ADA Consultant) to join our team and play a vital role in fostering inclusivity and accessibility in the workplace! As the HR Generalist (ADA Consultant), you will be a key advocate for ensuring equitable accommodations for employees and applicants, enabling them to perform essential job functions and fully enjoy the benefits of employment. This role requires a proactive, empathetic, and knowledgeable professional who can guide individuals and leaders through the interactive process while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.

Your Role In Action

  • Fair and Consistent Implementation: Apply accommodation policies fairly and consistently across the organization.
  • Providing Guidance: Offer expert advice to employees, applicants, and supervisors throughout the interactive process.
  • Issuing Response Letters: Draft formal response letters for reasonable accommodation requests.
  • Tracking Requests: Conduct initial intake and maintain accurate records of all accommodation requests.
  • Consulting with Others: Provide guidance to decision-makers and other involved parties.
  • Processing Requests: Handle accommodation requests, including procuring necessary items and services through the Centralized Accommodation Fund (CAF).
  • Keeping Individuals Updated: Maintain open communication with individuals throughout the process.
  • Confirming with the Individual: Validate accommodation needs directly with the individual when third-party requests are involved.
  • Consulting for Information: Gather essential information from personnel or external sources to make informed determinations.

What Qualifications You Will Need

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Professional Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of the ADA, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant laws.
    • Familiarity with assistive technology applications (e.g., screen readers, speech recognition tools).
    • Experience working with assistive technology users and understanding their needs.
    • Creative problem-solving skills to develop innovative accommodations.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in human resources or a related field, managing the ADA/interactive process. PHR, CP, SPHR, or SCP certification preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and the ability to serve as a role model.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Experience mentoring and training others in assistive technology.
    • Willingness to travel to local facilities as needed.
    • Experience with benefits guidance, vocational coaching, or related fields is highly valued.
