Brief Description
Join our team at The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") as a Master Level Clinican (MLC) with our Chronic Consumer Stabalization Initiave (CCSI) team. We're seeking a dedicated professional who will revolutionize the way we provide clinical services.
The Master Level Clinician (MLC) works collaboratively with the treatment team performing clinical activities in the community such as independent assessments and service interventions as directed by the Plan of Care and/or identified consumer need(s). This job is a part of a multidisciplinary team providing clinical services to individuals identified by the Houston Police Department’s Mental Health Division. The MLC is responsible for providing the following services: Crisis Intervention, Behavioral Health Assessments, creating Plan of Cares, developing and implementing innovative clinical activities unique to the consumer’s needs including but not limited to individualized therapy, skills building, behavioral modification and case management. The Master Level Clinician works closely with CTL to ensure quality of care standards are met and perform routine record audits. The MLC will assign tasks from the Plan of Care to other team members based on client needs.

What You Will Do
- Performs crisis assessments to determine appropriate level of care, assess for safety, and formulate diagnosis.
- Provides crisis counseling and intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms, provide education and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.
- Completes behavioral health intake assessments for all individuals entering the program and collaboratively creates a plan of care with the individual served to outline treatment goals.
- Monitors individuals’ progress with treatment goals and linkage to services.
- Educates family members so they may understand the individual’s mental health symptoms, treatment and assist with referring to community resources.
- Provides mental health services to individuals within the community as well as information on mental health, the importance of medications and treatment compliance, and other clinical related information to individual, family, community as needed.
- Completes electronic documentation in EHR for each client served by the end of shift the day a service was completed.
- Follows the key principles of a trauma informed approach (i.e. safety, trustworthiness and transparency, peer support, collaboration and mutuality, empowerment, voice and choice, cultural, historical, and gender issues) when interacting with the community and colleagues
- Participate in clinical and/or psychoeducational group activities as assigned.
- May co-lead community presentations with the Clinical Team Leader or Program Director.
- Completes monthly reporting and record audits.
- Assists with training new hires (shadowing, answering questions, etc).
- Complies with Agency policies and procedures and the assigned program Operating Guidelines. Remains in compliance with all Agency required training
- Performs related work as assigned and adapts to changing work requirements.
What qualifications you will need:
- Master’s degree (M.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavior, or human service field, including but not limited to: psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, human development, and educational psychology.
- Clinical license through the State of Texas for one of the following: LPC-A, LPC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT-A or LMFT.
- Must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable under Agency policy.
- The CCSI Master Level Clinician must pass a HCSO issued criminal background in order to maintain employment with the CCAP. HCSO may issue criminal background checks at any time during the LPHA’s employment.
- Must have basic knowledge of principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individual care and treatment for a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
- Must be familiar with local behavioral health providers and hospitals in the area served by the Agency.
- Must have strong diagnostic skills, the ability to incorporate patient history, symptoms, environmental and related issues to formulate proper diagnosis and treatment.
- Must have strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills. Written documentation must be clear, concise, and well-constructed.
- Must be able to work respectfully and maintain professional boundaries with other disciplines.
- Must have effective time management and organizational skills.
