Brief Description
The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Peer Navigator to join our team the Peer Re-Entry. Supports the physician and all treatment team members in providing TIMA educational services to consumers. Support includes developing and maintaining peer programs, consumer lead group discussion meetings, and other consumer to consumer initiatives that build resiliency and develop and enhance consumer skills. Assists trainers in TIMA educational and instructional programs and supporting the clinical coordinators in all aspects of delivering the TIMA based services to clients. Position will be required to provide in-reach services into the jail. These services may include transporting consumer/patient from jail to placement location.

Assists trainers in TIMA educational and instructional programs and supporting the clinical coordinators in all aspects of delivering the TIMA based services to clients. What You Will Do
- Develops, coordinates and implements the provision of peer group meetings and consumer to consumer discussion groups that will enhance consumer's ability to better manage their needs.
- Makes use of TIMA education materials and is knowledgeable in their use.
- Works collaboratively with trainers and clinical staff to enhance the overall quality of clinical care and incorporate peer groups into the clinical care of the consumers.
- Provides communication to all staff on ongoing efforts to develop peer to peer programs and consumer led discussion groups, and coordinates access to these groups through all providers.
- Demonstrates professional conduct in all work behavior
- Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements.
- Must have High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have Texas ID, Driver’s License preferred.
- Must be a Certified Peer Specialist / have equivalent certification or must take the Certified Peer Specialist training within 6 months of hiring.
- 0-2 years of experience.
- Must self-identify as a user of Mental Health Services with no crisis services utilized within a year, and no hospitalization within a year. May consider one stay within a year if it was a short duration. Background check is required.
- Prefer past experience of being in a mental health crisis.
- Prefer experience of some homelessness.
- Basic understanding of mental illness, common signs and symptoms and the ability to identify difficulties coping in community settings.
- Familiar with having navigated the Mental Health System.
- Bi-lingual is a strong plus. Computer literate.
- Group affiliations a strong plus; i.e., NAMI, DBSA, AA, NA, etc.
- Strong communication, listening, and positive interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others in a teamwork environment.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to coordinate well with others.
- Self-directed.
