The Agile Product Owner in the Middle and Large Business Transformation Office will positively impact Product, Underwriting Excellence, Data, Digital and AI value streams to deliver better outcomes for our shareholders, customers, and employees. They will collaborate closely with internal customers and stakeholders to contribute and deliver on high business value strategic investments and enhancements on the Product Roadmap. They will collaborate cross functionally with business leaders and experts to define and evolve strategies, prioritize investments and lead agile execution teams spanning change management, actuarial, product, underwriting, operations, architectural, and technology dimensions. They will take a product ownership perspective - using data and insights - to prioritize and drive capabilities with a clear focus on customer and business outcomes. Responsibilities:
Lead product execution for 1-2 agile scrum teams
Articulate, own, and execute on the product vision and product roadmap
Manage the Product Backlog, including prioritization of stories to maximize business value
Engage with business partners to evaluate product opportunities, within bounds of scope
Validate that the solution and built functionality meets the vision
Convey the strategy/roadmap and can clearly articulate direction to the working team
Refining user stories and accepts the completed stories
Partner with the Scrum Master, Architects and Tech leads to ensure solutions will deliver the business vision
Determine sprint goals and user story acceptance criteria
Guide teams through analysis of risks and issues to inform options
Define product KPIs and manage cadence of outcome reporting
Ensure the development team understands the items in the backlog and their business value.
Proactively engaging with business and technology teams to identify and evaluate product opportunities and implications
Convey product and feature goals to working team in ways they understand, linking execution activities to business intent
Monitor execution progress including identification and escalation of risks, issues and sources of conflict
Supporting decisions with fact-based data to assist in prioritization and value of work.
Qualifications:
5 years of Commercial Underwriting or Sales Insurance experience required; Business acumen in Middle and Large Business products and processes a plus
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in one of the offices listed 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Open to considering a remote candidate with Middle and Large Commercial Underwriting and Product experience who can periodically travel to Hartford offices as needed.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Digital or technology experience required
Agile, Scrum, Product owner expertise required
Strong influencing skills with ability to collaborate and build relationships
Experience reviewing reports and data to identify insights and hypotheses for testing and driving new and enhanced customer experiences
Demonstrable experience translating business objectives into tangible plans, actions and results
Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and developing new features, user stories and processes
Experience with Excel and manipulating large data sets is required; PowerPoint, Visio experience preferred
Strong collaboration skills, including ability to manage multiple projects/work-streams and to identify intersections and implications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand audiences, tailor messages, and influence outcomes
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
