The Data Center Owner's Engineer (OE) acts as a key representative for the owner throughout the lifecycle of data center construction, commissioning, and operations. This role bridges the gap between the owner’s interests and external stakeholders, ensuring that all design, engineering, and operational decisions align with the project's goals, budget, and timelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data center design, engineering, and project management, coupled with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management and Coordination
Act as the owner's primary point of contact for all technical aspects of the project.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure alignment with project requirements and objectives.
Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality metrics, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
Design Oversight and Review
Review and approve design documentation, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, industry standards, and owner requirements.
Provide input on data center layout, power systems, cooling systems, network infrastructure, and security measures.
Identify potential design risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Construction and Commissioning Support
Oversee construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
Coordinate and participate in commissioning and testing of systems, including power, cooling, and IT infrastructure.
Ensure all systems meet performance benchmarks and regulatory requirements before handover.
Operational Transition
Support the transition from construction to operations, ensuring seamless handover to facilities management teams.
Develop or review as-built documentation, operations manuals, and maintenance plans.
Provide technical guidance during the initial operation phase to address issues promptly.
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including safety and environmental requirements.
Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate potential project risks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil preferred) or a related field.
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in data center design, construction, or operations.
Proven experience in project management within the data center or mission-critical facility environment.
Technical Skills :
Deep knowledge of power systems (UPS, generators, switchgear), cooling systems (CRAC, CRAH, chillers), and IT infrastructure.
Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, TIA-942, Uptime Institute Tier Standards, and NFPA.
Proficient in design tools and project management software (AutoCAD, BIM, MS Project, etc.).
Soft Skills :
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) or facilities management (FMP, CFM).
Experience with sustainability practices and energy efficiency in data center design and operations.
