General Description This position is part of the Maintenance staff of The Hayner Public Library District.
An employee in this position performs maintenance duties to effectively maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment owned by the library district, perform driving-related tasks (make pickups and deliveries, run errands, etc.) as needed, and other work as assigned.
This employee will perform work in the Downtown Library, Hayner Library at Alton Square Mall, and the Genealogy & Local History Library.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Drives a library-owned or leased vehicle under three-ton capacity
- Performs landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, and planting
- Maintains the appearance of library properties. Examples include: daily litter removal from the parking lot, gardens, and other exterior areas of the library, maintenance and cleaning of the exterior vestibule entrances, etc.
- Performs maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, emptying recycle and trash bins, stocking of supplies, unclogging drains, performing minor repairs, etc.
- Makes daily material transfers among all library locations as needed
- Drives deposits and change requests to bank for immediate processing as needed
- Delivers/retrieves any/all other items, materials, etc. as may be delegated without regard to time and distance involved as needed
- Cleans and maintains tools used on the job
- Performs all other duties as may be assigned Education & Skills
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- A valid Illinois Driver’s License demonstrating at least three years of violation-free driving is required
- Must be self-starter and able to work independently
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and ability to use common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches
- Experience performing routine maintenance
- Professional presentation and attitude
- Strong time management skills
Physical Demands
- Vision correctable to 20/40
- Must be able to work at varying heights via ladders
- Must be able to tolerate extreme outdoor temperatures
- Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push an average of 50 pounds unassisted
Working Conditions
- Work is indoors in a temperature controlled, office environment as well as outdoors in all types of weather conditions
Schedule
•Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be necessary in cases of inclement weather, library programming, or other facility-related maintenance emergencies.
Special Note
- Due to the physical nature of this position, maintenance personnel will be sent for an annual physical, conducted by a physician of HPLD’s choice and at THPLD’s expense.
- In case of a work related incident, a drug/alcohol screen will be required immediately.
