Job Description:
As the leader of the Heights Kids: Burleson Campus 1st – 5th grade program, the Children’s Minister guides and directs all activities. This role involves overseeing volunteers, curriculum development, class preparation, and recruitment efforts. Additionally, it encompasses administrative tasks to ensure effectiveness and efficiency through our church systems. The children’s minister serves as the primary contact for Burleson families with children in 1st – 5th grades, striving to cultivate a safe, dynamic, and enriching program.
Responsibilities for Children’s Minister
- Receive direction from the Next Gen Director and insight from the Campus Pastor.
- Oversees all operations for the 1st – 5th grade program ensuring the success of the Sunday and Wednesday night experience. Including but not limited to:
- Creating an inviting, safe, and controlled atmosphere for children to learn and receive.
- Build relationships with the children and encourage your dream team to develop connections as well.
- Enforce policies and procedures within the classrooms.
- Prepare and print curriculum and provide all supplies needed for classes.
- Ensure all areas are clean and set in an excellent manner for all services.
- Oversee all Sunday and Wednesday classes, along with special events.
- Assist with budget preparation and accountability.
- Submit order requests for supplies and equipment.
- Submit weekly: attendance and salvations numbers.
- The Heights Church is “One Church with Many Campuses” – as a team leader you are to work with other Children’s Ministers for central events, such as Propel Conference and Nights of Worship.
- Build and foster strategic partnerships with parents and elementary schools.
- Align with the church-wide calendar for family events, retreats, summer camps, volunteer appreciation, etc.
- Participate in weekly oversight meetings and monthly staff meetings.
- Work with Next Gen Director on special events, such as VBS and Kids Camp.
- Respond and minister to pastoral care needs of children and families at the campus including hospital visits.
- Achieve ministry growth markers year-over-year.
- Maintain compliance with all church policies and procedures.
- Respond to emails and phone calls within a 48-hour timeframe.
- Assist where needed with the Burleson Next Gen. department to ensure all families and children are taken care of.
Recruitment and Volunteer Oversight including but not limited to:
- Attend Connect Class.
- Review applications and communicate with potential volunteers.
- Greet and form relationships parents and potential volunteers.
- Train and develop leaders.
- Meet quarterly with volunteers to fellowship and re-enforce policies and procedures.
- Schedule volunteers through Planning Center.
- Complete Planning Center workflows punctually.
- Communicate schedules and lessons with key volunteers ahead of time, to allow ample time for preparation.
- Encourage your volunteers, be available to minister to them as needed.
Qualifications for Children’s Minister
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied by a positive attitude with parents and children.
- Great computer and creativity skills in designing new and entertaining ways for children to learn about life in Christ and faith values.
- Ability to deal with and relate to children by earning their respect and trust.
- Excellent organization and supervision skills.
- Evident relationship and belief in God and the church.
- Availability to work extended hours and during weekends.
- Proficiency in evangelical studies and children’s ministry.
