GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Vice President, Managing Director of Transit is responsible for providing strategy and leadership for all transportation activities for High Industries and all associated High companies. Plan, organize, and direct the utility fleet operations, equipment, and personnel and outsourced transportation. Responsible for the specialty hauling operation to meet the needs of the customer, achieve the annual business plan, grow sales to third party customers and maximize profitability for the company. Maintain positive working relationships with external business offerings and internal customers.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
BS degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
Experience in operations of a multi-faceted shipping and fleet business is preferred. Experience in the transformation of a multi-faceted business is desired for this role. While this position is strategic in nature, experience in transportation or logistics in the permitting, heavy/specialty hauling industries including DOT regulations, over dimension/overweight loads and driver hour service/log is desirable. Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP.
DIMENSIONS (SALES VOLUME, TOTAL EMPLOYEES REPORTING, PAYROLL, ETC.):
- $10 million – Transportation Operating Budget
- 140 employees – Shipping and Transportation
- Strategic asset management of a fleet of trucks and trailers valued at $25 million
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- This position reports directly to the President/COO of High Industries Inc.
- Reporting directly to the Vice President, Managing Director of Transit are the following functions: Loading, Warehouse, Shipping, and Fleet Maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide overall leadership to the materials management process including inbound delivery, warehousing, loading and outbound delivery.
- Provide overall leadership to the physical fleet maintenance of internal company capital and external vehicle maintenance completed via third party contracts.
- Provide overall leadership in the marketing of company transportation equipment for third party hauling.
- Bring functions and teams together to benchmark, identify and continuously improve processes and take advantage of synergies.
- Effectively train, supervise, coach and evaluate all direct reports utilizing performance planning, monthly one-on-ones and participative management to foster good communications and morale.
- Ensure the transportation and fleet maintenance organizations are profitable and managed within operating budget. Financial management of shipping projects, including both establishing estimating parameters and processes, and maintaining forecast of final cost at completion.
- Provide strategic leadership that complements other High entities and is in line with “Best Business Practices.”
- Creates engagement with teams of professional over-the-road truck drivers.
- Maintain a strong service-oriented relationship with all High Companies and any external third-party work under contract.
- Provide appropriate reports summarizing key operating and margin metrics to senior management.
- Responsible for ensuring safe operations as well as compliance with all OSHA regulations, DOT regulations and all applicable laws, and High Industries’ corporate policies.
- Ensure the logistics and maintenance programs operate within compliance with all company, local, state and federal regulations and laws.
- Lead the establishment of a community of suppliers that will support and complement the facilities and skills of High.
- Make personal visits to vendor offices scheduled or as required to assure their continued qualification and satisfactory performance. Also, communicates any appropriate changes to company policies that would impact on their ability to perform to expected standards
- Makes periodic personal visits to customers to solicit feedback and ensure quality goals are being achieved.
- Provide administrative support and supervision of department members.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the legal department to execute legal documents, agreements, contracts, etc.
- Participate on special committees, group meetings, etc. as well as advising other company personnel.
- Performs other duties or special assignments as requested by the President/COO.
