Campus Security Officer - Part-Time

Position Summary
The Hill School is seeking a 2nd Shift (3pm to 11pm) Campus Security Officer who works every other weekend and provides personal, equipment, and real property security for students, faculty, staff, and visitors within an assigned area of the campus. Security Officers also provide escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and perform routine security and public safety patrol duties. In an emergency situation security is expected to remain calm and alert.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Primary focus of the 2nd Shift Campus Security Officer includes but are not limited to the following :
- Ensure access through the Gate House is limited to faculty, staff, students, and approved vendors and visitors;
- Patrol campus, either on foot or in a motorized vehicle to ensure the safety and security of Hill property and students, faculty, staff, etc.;
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses keys to open and close buildings; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized personnel and / or suspicious activities;
- Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts;
- Completes a log of daily activities and provides "pass-on" information to relief personnel;
- Completes Incident Reports and maintenance Service Request forms;
- Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as lockout services, jump starts, etc.;
- Answers radio calls and / or incoming phone calls via security radio;
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
In this physically demanding position, employees are frequently engaged in a variety of activities that require significant physical exertion. Regular tasks include using hands and fingers for handling and feeling, as well as talking and hearing. Employees must be capable of walking extensively, reaching with arms, climbing, balancing, and performing actions such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The role necessitates the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific visual capabilities are essential, including close and distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Additionally, the position requires quick access to all areas of the property, highlighting the need for agility and stamina. Employees must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, with the option of occasionally using a golf cart for transportation between buildings. Routine tasks involve considerable walking to conduct safety inspections, and employees must be prepared to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Prolonged periods of sitting may occur while monitoring surveillance, but employees must also be adept at ascending and descending stairs. Effective hearing is critical for communication, and the role may involve climbing, standing for long durations, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and performing repetitive motions. Experience in patrolling premises-either on foot or by vehicle-is crucial, as is the ability to navigate diverse terrains, including hills and stairs, to ensure thorough patrols and emergency responses.
While performing the tasks of 2nd Shift Campus Security Officer, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and / or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
