Position Summary
The Hill School seeks a full-time Visual Arts Instructor to teach a comprehensive 9-12th grade visual arts program, including college-level courses. This position combines teaching responsibilities with the role of Boyer Gallery Coordinator. The Boyer Gallery offers 2,000 square feet of premium exhibition space and hosts multiple shows annually. The position requires occasional evening and weekend hours for gallery events and openings.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Instruct four sections of art across multiple levels including Studio Art 1-3, AP Art & Design (2D, 3D, Drawing), Advanced Studio Art Seminar, Advanced Art History Seminar
- Coordinate opportunities for students to engage with visiting artists
- Utilize the Boyer Gallery as a learning environment for students and community
- Serve as an adviser
- Participate in building duty rotation
- Collaborate with department colleagues on curriculum development and student exhibitions
- Curate and organize exhibitions featuring student, faculty, and professional artists
- Maintain the school's Permanent Collection
- Oversee gallery operations, security, and maintenance
- Manage gallery budget and event scheduling
- Develop relationships with local and visiting artists
- Create educational programs and events
- Prepare marketing materials and donor reports
- Coordinate gallery openings and special events
- Demonstrate mastery in various art mediums and techniques (2D / 3D, drawing, painting, digital media)
- Create engaging, differentiated instruction for diverse learning styles
- Utilize technology effectively in art instruction
- Maintain high academic standards while fostering creativity
- Execute effective classroom management and organization

Ideally, a candidate will possess 3-5 years of teaching experience. The teacher will also be expected to undertake responsibilities that are normally associated with a boarding school, such as serving on various school committees and participating in the school's co-curricular and residential programs. A Bachelor's degree in art history, Fine Arts or related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred . Employment date for this position begins July 1, 2025. Duties begin August 2025.
