The Hinckley Company, known for building and servicing, strong, seaworthy and beautiful yachts is seeking a Paint/Awlgrip Technician for our production facility in Trenton, Maine. The Paint/Awlgrip Technician assists, and performs basic preparation for painting boat exteriors and boat parts. Will learn the ability to perform a finish grade work product and is able to blend, repair, and paint decks, hulls, and parts. The Painter/Awlgrip Technician will spray finish coats to desirable thickness and may perform boot stripe layout.
- Tape or otherwise protect surrounding surfaces such as decks, hardware, windows from overspray during painting process.
- Cleans, sands, and smooths surfaces, using appropriate tools, such as scrapers, sandpaper, steel wool, or chemicals.
- Set-up and dismantle staging.
- Learns to mix materials.
- Performs long boarding using fairing compounds and polishes, and sands.
- Cleans boats and work area daily.
- May make repair recommendations to solve specific problems.
- Understands billing and material charging process.
- Some customer contact is necessary requiring diplomacy in communication skills.
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain safe, clean work area.
- All work to be performed to Hinckley Company quality standards.
- Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.
- Vocational, High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) required.
- Basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
- Two (2) years experience in auto body or marine paint applications or equivalent experience.
- Operation of sanders/pneumatic tools, spray equipment use, set-up and maintenance.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift and carry over 25 lbs. and up to 60 lbs. on a frequent basis (over 40% and up to 70%)
- Requires frequently lifting or moving average weight material.
- Frequent mental and visual attention on an intermittent basis.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, push, and pull and work in small, tight spaces.
- Requires working under disagreeable conditions on a frequent basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water or chemicals may be present.
Mandatory respirator use is required for certain tasks.
