Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Counsel to join our team at a title agency in New City. As Underwriting Counsel, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance and oversight on commercial and residential title insurance deals, as well as managing and developing our underwriting team.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze title reports, abstracts, and other documents to determine insurability of titles
- Provide expert guidance and direction to title examiners and readers on complex title issues
- Clear titles for commercial and residential transactions, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Conduct title searches and examinations, and review title commitments and policies
- Collaborate with clients, agents, and internal teams to resolve title issues and facilitate transactions
- Manage and develop a team of underwriters, providing guidance, training, and feedback to ensure high-quality work product
- Oversee the underwriting process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of title work
- Develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and risk management
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments, regulatory changes, and market trends
- Mentor and coach junior underwriters to enhance their skills and knowledge
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admission to the bar in [State]
- 5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting, preferably with experience in both commercial and residential transactions
- Strong knowledge of title insurance law, regulations, and industry standards
