Summary:
The Director of Marketing and Community Relations initiates, oversees, and contributes to the development and execution of PR plans for all aspects of the museum, including exhibits, programming, and institutional visibility and brand awareness. This position oversees the Marketing Department and supervises all aspects of advertising, promotion, brand awareness, social media, website, media and community relations, database management, memberships, and plays a pivotal role in the museum’s development projects.
This full-time position reports to the Executive Director and serves on the museum's Senior Management Team. A successful individual works closely with stakeholders both within the museum and the broader community to identify opportunities for collaboration, creating exciting new ways to share our region's history and grow The History Museum's reputation.
Responsibilities:

- Attracts and maintains audiences through effective and innovative marketing techniques. Develops, implements, and oversees marketing strategy, plans, and campaigns to promote and publicize the museum, its areas, exhibits, programs, events, projects, and overall brand.
- Develops all advertising content for traditional, digital, and other media, as well as print collateral such as fliers, banners, and billboards.
- Supervises and coordinates all public-facing digital communications, including the Museum's website, social media, and eblasts.
- Manages the museum’s branding, logo, and style guides, ensuring consistent use in all communications.
- Identifies and analyzes the needs and wants of the Museum's diverse audiences, including analysis of audience research, surveys, and other information-gathering methods.
- Creates reports and presents data regarding audience tracking, engagement, memberships, and marketing metrics.
- Supervises and leads full-time Marketing Department staff and outside consultants as needed, including independent contractors and freelancers.
- Primary liaison with print, broadcast, and online media including serving as lead spokesperson, writing all press releases, and soliciting and arranging media interviews and photo opportunities.
- Represents the museum at community collaborations, partnerships, and events.
- Works with content creators to plan and coordinate public programming.
- Maintains currency with media and industry trends and executes up-to-date creative strategies appropriately.
- Grows the Museum's membership through coordinating appeals, communications, events, and recruitment.
- Provides input on the development of and manages the overall marketing budget.
- Ensures the museum’s Client Relationship Management database is maintained, tracking members, visitors, donors, volunteers, and events.
- Works with the Development Committee and Executive Director to create and implement effective fundraising and friend-raising campaigns including procurement of sponsorships, completing grants and monitoring grant deadlines, assisting with the annual fund and annual gala solicitations, and other related projects.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required in marketing, communications, public relations, or other related field.
- Experience in marketing and public relations, preferably in a mission-driven non-profit environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); NeonCRM (or similar Client Relationship Management software); Constant Contact or similar; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) preferred.
- Ability to multitask with high degree of accuracy and timeliness of work product.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:
May need to climb up and down stairs; to bend, stoop, and lift or move materials and retrieve files; to pull/push, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds; spend considerable time on feet; and to reach both above and below shoulder height.
