Our client, a nonprofit dedicated to driving economic change, is seeking a full-time Controller to oversee and manage its financial operations. The Controller will play a critical role in managing the organization's financial systems, ensuring compliance, and leading key administrative functions. This position also involves managing a small team and reporting directly to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee daily financial and accounting operations, including project and program accounting.
- Prepare timely financial reports and analyses for leadership and the board.
- Manage cash disbursements, payment schedules, and reporting for investments and grants.
- Maintain and oversee financial and investment databases (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Lead the annual audit process and collaborate with external auditors.
- Develop and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and applicable regulations.
- Create and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models.
Human Resources and Administration:
- Handle payroll, benefits, and performance management processes.
- Manage insurance policies, risk assessments, and administrative functions.
- Oversee IT systems and ensure information security protocols are followed.
- Provide additional administrative and operational support as needed.
Qualifications:
- At least seven years of experience in finance and accounting.
- Proficiency in fund accounting and nonprofit financial management is highly preferred.
- Expertise in financial reporting, compliance, and U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
- Strong project management and communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
