The Position

HOPE is seeking a Director of Recruitment and Admissions who will develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive and creative recruitment and admission strategy for HOPE’s job training and transitional employment programs, which enroll approximately 400  jobseekers in the coming year, with strategic growth goals in the following years.

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive recruitment strategy for HOPE’s job training and transitional employment programs, which currently include: HOPEworks, Sustainable South Bronx, NYC CoolRoofs, and Intervine. This will include: social and other media campaigns; collateral drops; outreach and hiring events at community-based organizations, City of New York agencies, and elected officials’ and other onsite and offsite resource and job fairs, as well as other creative efforts.
  • Align with a coordinated approach to partnership development, working across program teams to gather insight on current organizational relationships and ensure that they are vetted with focus on opportunities that meet organizational goals beyond outreach.
  • Develop and steward partnership for outreach and recruitment with a particular focus on partnership that can properly manage expectations of their constituents and support them in successfully enrolling and competing our programs.
  • Identify partners and broker working relationships with organizational prospects that support pillars of our strategic plan - Bridge to HOPE, HOPE on the Road, Raising HOPE, and HOPE 4 Life.
  • Implement each program’s recruitment plan with the Recruitment and Admissions team in a way that ensures the enrollment of approximately 400 qualified, interested, and eligible students and participants across HOPE’s programs annually. This includes a specific targeting of young adults and individuals with involvement in the criminal legal system.
  • Act as a primary point of contact with referral partners, orienting them to program requirements, communicating information about students’ progress, and ensuring a flow of eligible candidates to HOPE for enrollment.
  • Create unique, targeted collateral that speaks to each programs’ unique position as both workforce development, training, and transitional employment programs as well as sustainability-focused programs.
  • Manages outreach & employment events, including on and off-site job fairs.
  • Develop and integrate plans to utilize alumni ambassadors to support recruitment, outreach and engagement efforts.

  • Supervise 4 staff in a growing organization.
  • In addition to recruitment and intake, where possible, support the programmatic teams in overseeing students and program participants in class and in the field, facilitate substitute classes, and engage in employer partner development activities.
  • Stay current with policy and programs in the education and workforce development field.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated management experience and skill set in working with unemployed or underemployed adults who are interested in professional training and employment, but often have multiple barriers to this, such as long-term unemployment, housing instability, involvement with the criminal justice system, and history with substance abuse.
