The Mental Health Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, adults, older adults and dually diagnosed patients. Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, and CPR training. - Perform search for contraband items
- Ensure patients and environmental safety per monitoring processes, e.g., Unit Safety and Patient Rounds.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for hospital personal, patients and families
- Provide Registered Nurse with patient information to assist him/her in daily evaluation and planning of patient care.
- Under the direction of the licensed professional, assist in provision of care as indicated in the interdisciplinary treatment/recovery plan.
- Closely monitor patients on special observation status; report and record behavioral changes
- Assist patients with ADL’s as needed
- Knowledge of principles and practices relevant to patient care activities with ability to plan, direct, and monitor others activities.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment.
- Highly Developed written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with common computer based applications such as electronic mail, word processing and various databases
- Utilize effective communication skills in interacting with all consumers, including patients, their families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Assist in Orientation of new personnel.
- Develop a rapport with coworkers hat is conductive to effective teamwork and patient care.
- Take responsibility for personal education, growth and development; ensure compliance with all training and education requirements pursuant to this position
- Know and comply with all confidentiality laws and regulation, e.g., HIPPA
