Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols.  Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.
 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.

GENERAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
  • May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
  • May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
  • May be required to change from one task to another or different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
  • May be scheduled as needed including overtime.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS & DEMANDS:

  • Have near normal hearing: Hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice.
  • Have near normal vision: Clarity of vision (both near and far), ability to distinguish colors.
  • Have good manual dexterity.
  • Have good eye-hand foot coordination.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motion.
  • Continuously within shift (67-100%): Standing, Walking.
  • Frequently within shift (34-66%): Bending/Stooping, Pushing/Pulling, Lift/carry up to 20lbs, Lift/carry > 20 lbs. with assistance.
  • Occasionally within shift (1-33%): Sitting, Climbing, Twist at waist, Lift/Carry > 50 lbs. with assistance, Reaching above shoulder.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be proficient in performing routine CT exams and routine radiographic exams within the Radiology Department and CT Department.
  • Must ensure that the x-rays and CT images are accurate by way of image quality and also take the corrective action where indicated, and notifies the Radiology Manager of any problems with any equipment within the CT Department.
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock. Burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patient accordingly.
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure- makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Must be responsible for proper processing, logging and charging the exams performed.
  • Must participate in the development of any new procedures and improvement of existing procedures set forth in the P&P book.
  • Will participate in ordering and receiving of supplies.
  • Must help maintain CT equipment by performing: Daily Fast Cal & Proper Daily Shut Down procedures.
  • Employee must wear film badge that is provided by HAMC to help monitor their own radiation exposure.
  • Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.  This includes checking with nurses’ station.
  • Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
  • Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
  • Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents and deviation.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family.
  • Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
  • Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.
  • Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
  • Must complete at least 12 hours of education annually.

  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly.
  • Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communications the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.

Qualifications


EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • One year of radiologic/imaging experience.
  • Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
  • Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
