JOB SUMMARY:
The RN provides direct and indirect patient care to all age groups. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the patient care given. They will supervise assigned nursing personnel, collaborate with other health care professionals, and coordinate ancillary staff.
The Registered Nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for a group of patients, supervise assigned nursing personnel, collaborate with other health care professionals, coordinate ancillary staff, demonstrate professional growth and development in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice at the clinical setting, and provide direct or indirect patient care to all developmental ages.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrates good judgment and analytical ability in preparing work for review.
- Conducts frequent rounds throughout the entire nursing home to ensure appropriate function of operations.
- Informs the DON of any anticipated and/or actual issues/problems.
- Maintains currency with respect to all new policies and procedures published.
- Monitors the implementation of all organizational policies, primarily clinical practice standards by direct observation and interaction with the nursing staff.
- Provides the direction to the nursing staff in the delivery of resident care.
- Consistently monitors compliance with standard of care by observation, verbal reports, and written documentation; regularly give feedback to staff as appropriate. Assists in the development of a plan to increase compliance and implements actions to correct deficiencies.
- When appropriate, initiates the disciplinary process in collaboration with the DON; does not wait to take action if immediate is mandated.
- Provides direction to nursing staff during increasing or decreasing periods of resident activity; intervenes during crisis and emergency situations providing leadership to the staff.
- Consistently monitors and follows nursing home policy with respect to transferring and receiving residents to and from the hospital and/or other facilities.
- Anticipates potential problem situations and intervenes to offset any adverse impact.
- Responds to all emergencies and disasters within the nursing home.
- Evaluates maintenance requirements on the weekends and off hours and communicates needs to on-call maintenance personnel.
- Fosters exceptional public relations for the nursing home; interacts with resident, family member, and general public in a positive manner.
- Demonstrates resourcefulness and provides leadership during periods of stress within the nursing staff.
- Assist with time schedule coordination to provide coverage.
- Builds a positive work environment by guiding employees to support the mission of the nursing home, providing developmental opportunities and encouraging teamwork.
- Ensures the distribution and delivery of equipment/supplies as necessary.
- Assist DON with development of continuous quality improvement indicators and audits.
- Maintains an effective rapport with residents, visitors, resident family members, physician, subordinates and other supervisory staff.
- Works collaboratively with other staff members to provide continuous service to the organization.
- Provides proper notification for absence as per facility policy as evidenced by call-out records.
- Promotes confidentiality and uses complete discretion when discussing information.
- Maintains calm and effective behavior during stressful situations.
- Inspires confidence from callers, visitors, co-workers by remaining well informed and prepared at all times.
- Appears well groomed and observes established dress guidelines, visibly wearing the photo/name identification badge.
- Demonstrates ability to express self in all areas of communication (verbal, written, non-verbal).
- Attentive to detail, record-keeping and required paperwork inherent to the position.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current computer systems used in the facility.
- Willingly accepts assignments to special projects.
- Adheres to identified work schedule; notifies the DON of needed changes in schedule.
- Adjusts personal schedule to complete assignments.
- Maintains assigned equipment, reports malfunction and orders services as necessary.
- Participates in staff meetings and conducts staff meeting for assigned shift in absence of DON.
- Demonstrates adherence to infection control policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
- Demonstrates correct hand washing technique
- Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and uses same in practice.
- Notifies the Infection Control Coordinator of real or potential exposures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA regulations:
- a. Complies with OSHA regulations regarding Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
- b. Complies with OSHA regulations regarding TB Exposure Control Plan.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the facility’s Hazardous Waste Management Plan:
- Appropriately segregates waste at the point of origin.
- Discards waste in appropriate bags, receptacles, etc.
- Supports and promotes the facility’s Safety Program.
- Demonstrates adherence to safety policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment for residents and co-workers:
- Follows all general safety rules.
- Demonstrates an understanding of fire drills, internal/external disaster plans and evacuation procedures as evidenced by in-service records and participation in drills.
- Supports and promotes the facility’s Risk Management Program.
- Demonstrates adherence to risk management policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
- Submits incidents reports according to facility policy.
- Notifies the DON of incidents involving injury or having the potential for injury.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding knowledge of adverse incidents.
- Always properly identifies the patient.

Qualifications
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of school of nursing with reasoning, mathematical, and English language skills of this level of education.
- Current RN license in the State of Georgia.
- Nursing skills as defined by the laws governing the practice of nursing in the State of Georgia.
- Current BCLS Certification
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
