GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In Aircraft Design, Instructors collaborate with the Program Director to execute a two-week curriculum that introduces students to the fundamentals of engineering design and simulation by developing a simulated model and a 3D-printed model of an aircraft. Program students will utilize the Hotchkiss School’s Class of 2107 EFX laboratory. Students will learn how to create models with Onshape, a web-based CAD software application Once basic skills are mastered, students will design an aerodynamic vehicle design, then incorporate components used in the powertrain, steering, and suspension. Frame design will then be put to the test in a series of structural and aerodynamic simulations. 3D printing skills will also be learned.
The course components will support students learning in conceiving, developing, and designing their ideas and constructing them through Onshape software. Students will learn physics and math concepts involved in designing an aircraft. As a team endeavor, students will learn to collaborate, allocate responsibilities consistent with their strengths and interests, and learn together through trial and error.
