WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
A strong, communicative, and established accounting leader in the hospitality industry enjoys making a difference. The ideal complex controller is an extremely strong accountant, teacher, and communicator that works with department leaders to improve operations while leading a team that creates, analyses, and reports financial results accurately. The Complex Controller is responsible for both The Hotel at the University of Maryland and the Cambria Hotel College Park so the ability to organize both thought and action is essential.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
- Responsible for performing the duties as the primary Controller for The Hotel at the University of Maryland and the Cambria College Park.
- Partner with Southern Management corporate accounting teams for reporting of month-end (P&L), on-demand and ownership reports, along with other requirements.
- Lead communications between Accounting and all other departments at both hotels
- Train and coordinate activities of the accounting staff
- Ensure the timely billing of all direct bill accounts with complete backup and accurate
- invoices
- Ensure all guest disputes and requests for clarification are resolved and/or responded to within 24 hours of notice
- Ensure an effective tracking system for all rebates, adjustments, refunds, deposits, and similar
- Utilize ProfitSword, Yardi, Opera and other tools to manage hotel expenses, coordinate forecast, track and report on revenues and expenses, and provide accurate daily, weekly and monthly reporting as required or needed.
- Prepare company reconciliation and solve disputes creating a process to reconcile and ensure mistakes are caught and processes updated to improve performance.
- Ensure daily balance of daily income journals and reports and ensure the timely completion of month-end and year-end closings.
- Ensure that daily cash management functions are prepared properly, and processes are in place to audit, inspect, and improve cash handling and security related functions.
- Responsible for all phases of Purchase Orders, Receivables, Collections and Accuracy of billing
- Maintain accuracy with all Banquets expenses including service charge distribution, collection of approved billings, tracking for covers, and labor.
- Ensure all bank deposits are accurate.
- Make sure total from Delphi, PMS, and Accounting Systems balance
- Process credit applications for direct billing and set up vendors for all departments
- Process MD Sales and use Tax and County Occupancy Tax Monthly
- Ensure unresolved incidents are reported to Manager/Supervisor
- Maintain knowledge and departmental compliance with all policies, service procedures, and standards
- Understand company's emergency procedures and be able to apply them when necessary
- Attend department meetings and training sessions as necessary
- Effectively manage staff through respectful communication, clear expectations, relevant training, productive coaching, holding regular team meetings, and appropriate performance management
- Delegate work as appropriate, stating clearly objectives and time-line requirements
- Monitor and evaluate employees' successful completion of work
- Work collaboratively with others to analyze and improve work processes
- Stay abreast of industry trends
- Contribute to team/company engagement efforts
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Supervisor
