General Statement of Job
This is a general manual and limited semi-skilled position. Involves maintenance and cleaning of Public Housing buildings/grounds as well as providing assistance to maintenance mechanics. Employees may operate simple hand tools and small motorized equipment (weed eaters, lawn mowers, stripping machines, etc.); Duties require limited contact with residents. Instructions from Supervisor(s) are specific nature on all but previously learned tasks and subject to be frequently monitored for quality.
Essential Duties:
Sweep, scrub, mop, dust, wax and polish floors.
Wash windows, woodwork, toilets, washroom and fixtures. Clean stoves and refrigerators.
Empty and cleans storage areas, trash chutes and other delegated spaces.
Empty trash, pick up and removes litter and debris from properties, replace trash and garbage can liners.
Support and actively participates in the Housing Authority’s safety programs.
Mow lawns with power mower or operate tractor with mower. Rake leaves, cut brush and trim hedges.
Operate weed eater, edger and other lawn equipment.
Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment used.
Perform routine maintenance work such as changing lights, painting, patching, and may assist mechanics with other projects involving plumbing, electrical or carpentry, etc.
Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
A high school diploma or GED, at least six (6) months experience in performing maintenance-related work or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required as is
Possession of a Valid Florida driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools necessary for the maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Knowledge of basic grounds and landscaping maintenance practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of common hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to comprehend and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Skill in operating assigned tools and equipment.
- Skill in following safety practices and recognizing safety hazards.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 75 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Pierce promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing
