We are seeking a dedicated Laborer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be performing a variety of unskilled tasks in support of building maintenance, grounds facilities, and repair projects. Positions in this class may, in addition to typical laboring duties, perform assignments of a helper nature for semi-skilled and skilled maintenance personnel.

Work is performed with close supervision from a trade's superior. Assignments are limited in nature and are carried out in accordance with specific directions and standing work instructions.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

Attendance is an essential function of this job.

Operates light power equipment in the maintenance of grass, hedges and shrubbery, and cultivates and maintains shrubs, trees, and other plans in nursery or on projects.

Collects refuse and garbage from vacant apartments, hallways of buildings, and grounds.

Cleans office area, floors and stairways, gutters, culverts and other drainage structures.

Sweeps and cleans apartments, sidewalks and grounds, and performs other janitorial duties.

Assists in semi-skilled work such as plumbing, carpentry, and painting by carrying tools, lifting lumber, replacing light bulbs, etc.

May operate light trucks to pick up and deliver tools and supplies.

Performs related work as required

May be assigned to a five-day work week that includes weekends.

Abilities Required:

Some knowledge of common work routines in building and mechanical maintenance work.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Willingness to perform routine manual work

Ability to lift heavy articles. Must have good stamina and be in excellent physical condition.

Must be able to read and write effectively for position within one year of hiring.

Must acquire ability to utilize agency computer system for filing simple work orders or other related maintenance matters.

Minimum Requirements:

Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.

Eligibility for a valid West Virginia motor vehicle operator's license and possession of such licensure prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as the Maintenance Laborer, if required by work assignments.
