MAJOR FUNCTIONS:        

Welcoming guests and assisting them. Responsible for performing hair spa services in the manner trained by Trellis Spa. Direct all efforts toward guest satisfaction, the achievement and maintenance of Trellis Spa standards and profit maximization. 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                              

  1. Adhere to all standard policies and procedures and Texas Cosmetology laws.                           
  2. Perform all guest activities in a cordial, efficient and professional manner, at all times maintaining a commitment to guest satisfaction.
  3. Maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude in working with management and fellow associates in all Houstonian departments.  Help achieve our common goals of maximizing guest satisfaction and profit margins.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude towards co-workers and the job being performed.
  5. Report to work on time in a properly cleaned and pressed uniform.  Hygiene is key in this environment due to the close proximity working with the clients.  Employee scent should always remain neutral. Light make-up should be applied prior to arriving for your shift.
  6. Adhere to a professional relationship with clients of The Houstonian and Trellis Spa.  Discussion of internal matters of any sort with clients is not permitted.
  7. Reports and documents any observed or known safety hazards, conditions or unsafe practices and procedures to management immediately.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Without exception performing Consultation, and Verbal Communication on every client you service.
  2. Uphold the standards of sanitation and sterilization as directed by law and the spa’s policies and procedures.Perform haircuts and/or color services listed on our spa
  3. menu administered by a hair stylist.  This will include shampooing, scalp treatments and scalp massage.
  4. Perform specific salon services on the guest in a manner that helps them relax and enjoy their experience at the Spa. 
  5. Perform all services for which training has been received in the allotted period.
  6. Maintain all hair stations, salon areas and hair tools in a sanitary condition.
  7. Change linens in between guests using clean capes and towels for each guest.
  8. Assist in maintaining a clean dispensary in the back room of the salon.
  9. Actively promote the spa, treatments, services, sessions and retail, as well as programs, promotions and/or discounts available.
  10. Retail Sales are a requirement and a part of the guests continued home care.
  11. Promote home care programs, meeting minimum retail sales goals.
  12. Keep work area neat and clean at all times, personal items should never be visible.
  13. Keep work area stocked with sufficient supplies for a full day of operation.
  14. Refill products in the work carts used for the day.
  15. Clean equipment and common areas used after performing services.
  16. Fold towels and linens for use in the service areas.
  17. Properly use authority within given guidelines to do anything to keep our guests happy.
  18. Inform managers of ways to improve overall operation of the spa, your working experience and the comfort of our guests.
  19. Assist other departments whenever necessary (and available).
  20. Attend all training sessions, learning new techniques to be used in the performance of the job.
  21. Maintain current certifications/licenses to be displayed in your room, a copy with the Spa.  It is the stylist’s responsibility to never allow this license to expire.  If this happens, immediate suspension without pay will be necessary. 
  22. Perform any reasonable tasks assigned by a supervisor or manager.
  23. Attend all staff meetings.
  24. Report any maintenance problems throughout the spa to management.
  25. Help train fellow hair stylists on newest techniques and treatments.
  26. Stay current and educated with new treatments and products in the Spa/Salon industry.
  27. Promote self as well as other Spa, Hotel and Club affiliates and services.
  28. Support fellow staff members by noticing how they are feeling and providing compassion.
  29. Must maintain client and spa business confidentiality/privacy at all times.

WORK SCHEDULE:          

  1. The Spa functions 12-16 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.  All employees must realize this fact and be aware that at times it may be necessary to change an associate from their usual shift as business needs change.
  2. At times due to lack of business, it may be necessary to reduce work hours.
  3. The Spa is currently open to guests from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Wednesday and from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday through Sunday.  This may change based on business needs.
  4. Report to work on time for your scheduled shifts.
  5. Weekend work schedules are a part of this position.

PREREQUISITES:

  1. Must speak fluent English.
  2. All certifications will be displayed in your station.  A copy will be filed with the Spa.
  3. Current cosmetology license is required.
  4. Must be able to deal with people in a professional manner under pressure.
  5. Must be flexible in work scheduling.
  6. Must be able to perform some strenuous physical labor (lifting boxes).
  7. Confidentiality with co-workers and clients regarding ANY in-house practices is a must.
  8. Professional appearance.
  9. Must be dignified: treat people at all times with courtesy and respect.

SAFETY AWARENESS:

  1. Attending all Houstonian training classes offered upon hire.
  2. Follow all aspects of job safety.
  3. Understand that the job may require bending, stooping, and lifting of materials up to 20 pounds.
  4. While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use of hand to write, talk, hear and see.
  5. Perform the duties of a hair stylist that requires standing, pushing, pulling, manual dexterity and proper ergonomic posture.
  6. Specific vision abilities required include color vision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:      

  • Employees must have the ability to lift items up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, carry, and swim.
  • Must be able to see and read documents and computer screens
  • Must be able to hear at normal levels and by telephone.

SPA PHILOSOPHY:

When hired by the Spa at The Houstonian and upon completion of a training program, you will join a select group of professional men and women who are dedicated to providing the finest service in the spa industry.  You may be required to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours.  You will be confronted with a great variety of people with an equal variety of needs.  You will have to think on your feet, keep smiling and make sure our guests want to return to the Spa at The Houstonian.
