What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Security Officer position at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa?
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting with the protection of property and assets including employees, guests, and members through responding to fire, medical and other emergencies on campus; in addition to enforcing and complying with all aspects of the company’s policies and procedures in a courteous and professional manner. Supervisors shall not violate policies and procedures/or guidelines they are responsible for enforcing. Supervisors shall assist the Director with training and daily supervision of the Officers. Supervisors shall also assist the Director with department scheduling.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Physical patrols of the campus buildings, garages, and surface lots
- Direction of traffic as needed on campus and in a safe manner.
- Comply with all Houstonian Hotel, Club, and Spa / Security Department policies and procedures/guidelines.
- Assist other Security Officers as needed.
- Respond as required to all emergency conditions such as evacuation, fire, power failure, flood, hurricane, etc.
- Maintenance of all Guest Room Safes, Golf car, and other Security equipment.
- Maintenance of First Aid equipment/supplies, including kits and Automatic External Defibrillators.
- Provide service and assist the guest, members, and employees entering and leaving the campus.
- Provide a visible deterrence to crime, prohibited activities, or suspicious activities in the public and non-public areas which may include but are not limited to areas such as the Hotel, Club, Spa, Tennis Center, and Manor House buildings; the campus grounds which include the outdoor track, parking areas, stairways, or mechanical areas of the buildings and garages.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Provide escorts to campus guests, members, employees, and visitors.
- Be alert for activities that could result in injury to a person or damage or loss of property, including reporting safety hazards or concerns.
- Perform other duties at the direction of or in the absence of the Security Director and Supervisor; and as directed by the campus leadership.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Education: High school education, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: One (1) year of Security or Loss Prevention; former law enforcement or military experience.
- Licenses and/or Certifications: First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications from the American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross, Texas Security Level II License.
- Hours required: The normal shift is 8 hours per day, five days per week. Actual scheduled days and hours may vary based on departmental needs.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
- Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, crawling on hands and knees, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work safely and effectively in outdoor temperatures. Temperatures in kitchens, mechanical rooms, and some other workspaces may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer temperatures outside can get above 95 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 months of the year. For 2 months of the year, low temperatures can get below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Must be able to carry fire extinguishers and or emergency equipment. Must be able to swim.
- Driving Ability: Occasional driving is required. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s License and maintain a good driving record in compliance with company policy. Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle equipped with a lift gate and/or a standard transmission.
- Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with customers, members, and guests and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
- Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and daily activity logs. Must be able to work with computers, under varied lighting conditions.
- Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident, and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and communicate effectively the contents of the reports.
- Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to MSDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
