What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Manager (on-site) position at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage the activities and production of all salaried and hourly departmental employees.
- Develop and implement Campus and Departmental policies and procedures relevant to Security, risk management, employee safety, guest fire, life safety, traffic control and asset preservation.
- Train, mentor and teach all department employees in Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa/ Departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all applicable regulatory compliance inspections are performed and recorded as required by law or jurisdiction having authority.
- Ensure that security surveillance systems are established, always monitored and functioning properly.
- Conduct regularly scheduled meetings that include goal review, safety and skills training.
- Conduct regular coaching and annual reviews for supervisors and hourly employees.
- Manage in-house and contracted projects as directed by the Director of Facilities.
- Conduct TABC, CPR, Haz-Mat, Fire Drill, Bomb Threat, Active Shooter Event and OSHA training/certification courses for all Security Officers and all applicable Campus employees.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Education: High school education, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Must have 4-6 years of experience in role as security or loss prevention specialist. Should have experience and understanding of local law and ordinances. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must possess strong leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, mentor and grow employees. Must have 1-3 years prior security/loss prevention management experience. Must have financial experience to develop budgets and understand Profit/Loss statements. Must be computer literate. Should be able to handle multiple and changing priorities in the best interest of the organization.
- Licenses and/or Certifications CPR/AED, TABC are required. LPC or CRM Certifications or equivalent certifications in physical safety/security are a plus.
- Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
- Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work safely and effectively in outdoor temperatures. Summer temperatures outside can get above 95 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 months of the year. For 2 months of year, low temperatures can get below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Must be able to swim.
- Driving Ability: Driving is required. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record in compliance with company policy. Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle equipped with a lift gate and/or a standard transmission.
- Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
- Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDA’s in varying light conditions.
- Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and communicate effectively content of reports.
- Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
