What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping & Receiving Clerk position at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa?
To receive and process all non-food merchandise and guest packages coming into the loading dock. To issue or transfer all incoming packages via QTrak software. To handle all freight claims for any damaged deliveries. To process outgoing mail. To sort all incoming mail and packages. To receive any and all merchandise in company P.O. system-Adaco. To properly document P.O. receiving and issuing to various departments. To call in and track shorts or damaged merchandise from vendors and to properly document status. To handle all outgoing shipments for guests or departments and process appropriate documentation. Assist storeroom clerks when needed. To maintain cleanliness and order of the receiving area as directed by the Purchasing Managers.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (key areas of focus in this position and average percent of time should be listed below.)
45% To receive, issue and direct distribution of all non-food merchandise coming into the loading dock.
35% Properly receive, store, and issue all guest packages.
5% Responsible for outgoing mail and packages.
5% Call in returns, shorts or damage claims to vendors or freight companies.
5% Maintain purchasing receiving files and databases.
2% Must be able to move furniture and help with warehouse inventory, issuing & stocking.
3% To do other functions assigned by the Purchasing Management Team.
OTHER:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Redstone from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the club.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Redstone rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Redstone rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following functions, with percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the club or other departments.
- Perform functions for food storeroom when needed.
- Assist with materials and furniture assembly and delivery
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Must be able to use a general shipping company’s websites. i.e. UPS and Fed Ex
- Must be must be able to use Outlook, Excel and other unique computer programs.
- Must be able to read and write fluently in English.
- Must be accurate and detailed oriented.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to lift 50#.
- Must be able to use hand truck.
- Must have ability to stand, walk, or sit and continuously perform essential job functions for an eight-hour plus shift.
- Must have ability to understand and follow directions, and perform job functions under limited supervision.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: 2-year hospitality or purchasing or warehouse/ receiving experience.
Licenses or certificates: None
Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
