Title: Summer Food Program Assistant – Youth (14-17 years old)
Pay: $16/hour ($18/hr if fully bilingual in Spanish and English)
Seasonal Position: 5/21/25-8/21/25
Schedule: Training: Wednesday, May 21st, 4-6pm; Thursday May 22nd, 4-6:30pm; Wednesday, May 28th, 4-6pm.
Program Weeks: 6/9/25-8/21/25: Mondays & Wednesdays 8am-2/3pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-2/3pm
Job Summary:
The Summer Food Program Youth Assistant (SFPYA) is a seasonal support position to our summer programs. The ideal candidate should be personable, a team player, and have a passion for working with youth of various backgrounds. The SFPA will support the Summer Food Program: a safe, engaging and fun environment for children of all ages to access nutritious lunches at multiple sites throughout Blaine County. The SFPA will work alongside the Community Kitchen Team and the SFP team to prepare and serve these lunches, as well as support community partner enrichment activities. The SFPYA reports directly to the Bloom Youth Project Supervisor.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Preparation
- Follow all food safety rules when working with the food prep team in the Kitchen
- Work with the food prep team to prepare hundreds of lunches two mornings each week
- Follow food prep task lists and flow to ensure efficiency and quality
- Wash dishes and put them away
- Provide guidance to volunteers
Summer Food Program Sites
- Load and unload van with engagement materials and food
- Serve lunch to youth and adults at the sites, acting as an ambassador for The Hunger Coalition
- Work with partners to implement fun, engaging, age-appropriate activities for children and families.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment at the park and in the van storage area.
- Mentor children by being a role model, involving them in clean up and activities, and talking with them to create a respectful community environment.
- Immediately report any safety issues or concerns for a child’s safety to the Bloom Youth Project Supervisor or adult Summer Program Team.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Is fluently bilingual in Spanish/English, with the ability to communicate clearly in both languages.
- Youth ages 14-17 should apply
- Has personal experience with food insecurity or a commitment to social justice and/or community service through previous employment and/or volunteer experience.
- Works well with persons of varied sexual orientation, gender identity, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently-abled.
- Is willing to embrace and work to improve a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, which is central to the work we do.
- Enjoys engaging, educating, feeding and building community with children and families

- Is able to work outdoors in moderately adverse weather and able to lift 40 pounds
- Can be present and professional at work: show up on time, limit phone use, speak loudly and clearly, asking questions for clarification or curiosity; advocate for yourself and what you need
Salary : $16 - $18
