Job Description
About the Role
The Security Supervisor will manage security personnel, coordinate emergency responses, and implement security protocols. Strong leadership skills and experience in security management are essential for this role.
S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.
Essential Duties
Patrol Operations
- Exercises operational command responsibility over security personnel and supervises patrol within guidelines set by The Huntington and the Security Director.
- Supervises security personnel, administering policies and procedures for a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week operation.
- Conduct daily briefings and debriefings with security personnel as appropriate.
- Plans, directs, prioritizes, and organizes operational resources to accomplish department goals and objectives for security at The Huntington.
- Reviews daily operations, ensuring consistent applications of departmental policies and procedures for security at The Huntington.
- Coordinates with the Assistant Manager – Security Operations for centralized administrative functions, including payroll, training, uniform needs, etc.
- Consult with the Security Director about the administration of public safety operations and matters relating to special events and equipment.
- Coordinates overtime assignments for operations and special events.
- Oversee regular inspections of facilities, noting safety hazards and maintenance needs and submitting work requests to address issues as needed.
- Advises The Huntington administration, curators, and volunteers in areas of security.
- Schedules and assigns personnel, considering such factors as time off, incident rates, overtime, and other special requirements.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews all incident reports.
- Participates in recruitment and candidate selection processes, including updating position descriptions and recommending candidates for selection.
- Monitors the performance of all security personnel and conducts and/or reviews annual performance appraisals.
Staff Development & Performance Management
- Evaluate the performance of all staff and work with the Assistant Manager – Security Operations to recommend or develop training in response to community and institutional needs.
- Works closely with the Assistant Manager – Security Operations to provide leadership for The Huntington’s security environment, including people and systems.
- Supervises, trains, cross-trains, and evaluates personnel appropriately.
- Schedules and assists with onboarding and training for new and continuing security personnel, including in areas such as customer service, first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED), other institutional experience, and other professional development.
- Collaborates with other Huntington staff to ensure a positive community relations experience.
- Documents officer misconduct and makes referrals to the Assistant Manager – Security Operations for further action.
Administration
- Serves as liaison with various institutional stakeholders/representatives. (e.g., Site Protection, Facilities, etc.)
- Approves time collection for bi-weekly employees and coordinates payroll with the Assistant Manager – Security Operations
Event Management
- Participates in The Huntington’s Events Team relative to event planning, programming, and staffing.
- Coordinates with stakeholders to provide parking assistance to staff, volunteers, donors, and visitors, including for special events.
- Manage and coordinates security efforts for events, including liaison with requesting parties, staffing, and event supervision, with an emphasis on customer service without sacrificing safety or security.
- Responsible for overall supervision of all control room activities: Monitors, revises and enforces key control and visitor access and badging processes and makes policy suggestions as needed.
Emergency
- Supports The Huntington’s After-Hours emergency communications in coordination with The Huntington Emergency Response Group
- Responds to emergencies such as security and fire incidents and building evacuations.
Candidate Requirements and Experience
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
- Proficient computer skills with basic college-level writing skills.
- Have a valid CA driver’s license, no suspensions within the past 10 years.
- Provide direct, on-site supervision and cross-shift continuity to ensure both routine and ad-hoc duties are executed in accordance with established procedures and requirements.
- Ensure the highest standards of conduct, appearance, performance, training, and customer service are always met.
- Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the Operations Supervisor position including, but not limited to, the following:
- Resolution of security related issues.
- Management of dynamic, evolving emergency or security incidents.
- Liaison with law enforcement agencies, client personnel, and other customers.
- Provide and/or supports training for officers.
- Oversee training for security officers.
- Participate in self-assessments and quality assurance programs to include promptly responding to any observation or findings and rectifying any deficiencies discovered.
- Responsible for maintaining satisfactory standards of competency, conduct, appearance, and integrity and for taking disciplinary action as required with respect to security officers.
- Responsible for updating and maintaining the schedule.
- Manage daily scheduling/staffing issues, vacation calendar, and other special events schedules.
- Responsible for security personnel Post Order and Emergency Response Plan training, refresher training, operational execution, and remedial training requirements.
- Maintain control of issued Huntington keysets and ensure proper pass downs between shifts. • Ensure all CPR/First Aid certifications and Guard Cards are kept current.
- Update and maintain training files and input training hours. • Maintain medical and security equipment inventory.
- Ensure that all documents and records are maintained in an organized and auditable manner onsite.
- Manage the on the job (OJT) for all security officers (new and existing), conduct remedial training to improve officer performance, and perform all certification evaluations for all officers (new and existing).
Working Conditions
- May work in hazardous conditions associated with an emergency event (e.g., inclement weather).
- May be required to work extended days, nights, weekends, and holidays to conduct investigations, monitor performance, respond to any incident or event affecting the safety and security of Huntington, property, and/or the environment, and ensure program compliance and success.
