What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Vocational Nurse position at the Hurtt Family Health Clinic?
Under the clinical direction of the Director of Nursing, the principle function of the Licensed Vocational Nurse is to provide safe patient care by assisting Clinic Providers with treatments, procedures and clerical duties as defined in the Licensed Vocational Nurse Scope of Practice. The Licensed Vocational Nurse will demonstrate competence in-patient care for infants, children, adolescents, and adults. The LVN will ensure the delivery of quality patient care, timely care and efficiency in patient flow.
This position is full-time with a schedule of Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. All applicants must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

Job Responsibilities & Duties
- Performs all duties according to Nursing Practice Act and regulations set forth by the Board of Nursing.
- Supports Clinic Providers
- Request for Laboratory and X-ray Orders from Specialty Office or PCP
- Lab Orders – In EHR “Jellybeans”, verbal orders, or outside correspondence from Specialty Providers. Orders Encounter will be initiated for lab orders, LVN to place & pend Laboratory order in eCW under provider direction, coordinate with patient and Medical Assistant to give patient instruction.
- X-Ray Orders – In EHR “Jellybeans” will be initiated for x-rays orders, LVN to place & pend x-ray order in eCW under provider direction, coordinate with patient and Medical Assistant to give patient instruction.
- Provider EHR “Jellybeans” Message Management
- Provider Administrative Pool – Pool to be reviewed at a minimum of 3 times a day, log to kept and signed off by LVN/and Supervisor
- Examples of messages that can be addressed by LVN
- Performs dispensing duties according to Nursing Practice Act and regulations set forth by the Board of Pharmacy.
- Refill Request & Prior Authorization for Medication
- Research request for Medication Refill and if needed submits Refill Encounter within eCW request to Primary Care Physician or covering Physician.
- All Incoming Faxes for Refill request are reviewed prior to giving to PCP to insure in fact refill is needed , and patient does not already have refills
- Liaison between patient , provider, and pharmacy resolves any inquires in timely manner
- Durable Medical Equipment: LVN to assist provider to fill out request or prescription for DME Supplies.
- Regular monitoring and inventory medication supplies and order as needed, to par levels with the direct guidance of the Director of Pharmacy.
- Maintains and oversees clinic emergency medical kits expiration and par levels throughout all HFHC clinics.
- Patient request updates on referrals – communication message to referral coordinator to assist and contact patient.
- Any items that do not need a provider to address – LVN to assist with message and remove from pool.
- Vaccines
- Assist Vaccine Coordinator with ordering of Purchased Vaccines & Vaccine For Adults
- Oversee Patient Assistant Program for TDap and Pneumovax
- Report Weekly to providers vaccines in stock
- Medical Forms and Letters – LVN to fill out all appropriate fields to and forward to provider within 1-2 business days.
- Explain lab results, Diagnostic Imaging, other diagnostic test results to patients as directed by provider and following
- Performs medical assistant staff initial competencies and annual competencies as coordinated with Clinic Manager.
- Performs Licensed Vocational Nursing tasks, demonstrating Clinical Competency at the high scope of practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing.
