Rapidly growing global nonprofit organization is seeking a full-time Comptroller to work in its Washington, D.C. headquarters. The Comptroller will have primary responsibility for the planning, management, and execution of all financial activities of the organization, working as part of the executive management team.

Responsibilities of the Comptroller will include:

  • Providing leadership, direction, and management of small but growing finance and accounting staff
  • Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO and members of the executive management team/Board of Directors
  • Performing financial forecasting and budgets, and preparing all financial reporting
  • Advising on long-term business and financial planning
  • Reviewing all formal finance- and HR-related procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and contractual obligations and interacting with external auditors
  • Performing risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities and investments
  • Ensuring cash flow is appropriate for the organization’s operations

Activities will include the following:

  • Review and approve financial transactions
  • Responsible for financial strategy; planning and taxes; stewardship and compliance
  • Conduct regular review/analyses of all transactions for accuracy and correct recording in ledgers
  • Ensure financial register agrees with bank statements
  • Review and approve contracts with vendors
  • Work with external auditors
  • Prepare budgets
  • Supervise accounting staff
  • Manage accounts receivable and cash flow
  • Manage invoices/payment tracking
  • Prepare management reports
  • Provide financial information to support decision-making
  • Control costs
  • Prepare, interpret, and analyze financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annually)
  • Process and make payments and receive, pay, & record incoming invoices
  • Reimburse employee expenses
  • Manage payroll/benefits
  • Manage employee records
  • File documents
  • Perform regular reconciliations
  • Process outgoing invoices
  • Oversee tracking of grant expenditures
  • Ensure grant expenditures are properly coded and recorded
  • Perform monthly reporting of expenses for grant managers and provide comparison to grant budgets/assessment of whether expenses are tracking with budget allocations
  • Prepare quarterly and annual expenditure reports for each grant
  • Track co-financing and prepare co-financing reports quarterly and annually
  • Oversee direct mail campaign
  • Work with third party providers such as ADP, Bill.com, and Intuit

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics is required. An MBA or CPA is also highly desirable.

At least 10 years' proven experience in the finance industry, with experience managing a team. Nonprofit experience strongly preferred. HR experience highly desirable.

In-depth knowledge of financial law and risk management practices.

Strong knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.

Ability to strategize and solve problems.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well as part of a global, multi-cultural team.

Well-versed in all aspects of financial management and accounting.

Proficient in the use of QuickBooks and other financial management software.

Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Other:

40 hours per week in Washington, DC office.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
