Education: This is a full-time position. The position requires a Master's degree in human service field. The candidate must be licensed in a profession of the healing arts, and a CADC preferred.
Summary: The Assistant Director has responsibility for the general welfare of the members and staff of the program.
Salary Range: $79,000.00-$90,000.00
- Demonstrate professionalism and a positive attitude in all dealings with members, staff, and other agencies. The individual must learn, understand, and practice Independence Center protocols, policies, language, and skills.

This position requires working autonomously and as part of a team. The individual must be intrinsically motivated, flexible to shifts in priorities, and adaptive to changing work requirements; this includes arriving to work on time, following leave request protocols, and adhering to an established work schedule.
- The employee must demonstrate the ability to function in a computer-oriented office, including working knowledge of all relevant software. It is expected to maintain and improve job skills through training, education, seminars, and other activities designed to promote best practices about job duties. Some flexibility in schedule may be required to meet deadlines, including extended work.
- The position is responsible for providing the following duties:
- Ensure all programs function optimally, adhering to regulatory standards and requirements while meeting our members' support and rehabilitation needs. Oversee the clinical operation of all Independence Center programs. Manage programs during staff absences.
- Responsible for the direction of AOS/PSR programs and services: Understands the clubhouse model, philosophies of psychosocial rehabilitation, and mental illness and shares this knowledge and expertise with staff, members, and other stakeholders. Responsible for service quality, including member evaluation, treatment planning, and service delivery. Oversees the operations of Independence Center.
- Oversees the design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of Independence Center programs, products, and services. Provides continuous program improvement mechanisms involving input from staff, program members and their families, Board members, funding sources, and other stakeholders.
- Assures that the agency meets or exceeds professional standards as reflected in the agency's ethical code, funding guidelines, CARF standards and the laws of the State of Illinois.
- Oversees the appropriateness of treatment and assures that staff is adequately trained, supervised, and supported in their clinical interventions. Provides or leads crisis intervention and emergency services to members as required.
- Organizes program services' clinical reporting, statistical analysis, and outcome measures and provides this information to key stakeholders.
Oversee the clinical operation of all Independence Center programs. Responsible for making sure all programs meet their performance outcomes. Provides quality control for MRO billings and supporting documentation. Directs the flow of paperwork and documentation to meet the criteria of funding sources. The position maintains and implements evaluation measures for each of the programs. Recommend quality and process improvement initiatives to more effectively and efficiently perform the functions of this job.
- The position provides clinical and managerial supervision to program coordinators, program administrative assistants, and transportation managers. Participates in hiring new staff and volunteers/interns members and staff. Provide supervision to volunteers and students. Provides clinical supervision to all staff by overseeing programs and training, including in-service education. Arranges in-service education seminars and continuing education of staff. Ensure all staff are fluent in Independence Center messaging and branding
- The position facilitates the orientation process; this includes orientation given to new staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Provides oversight and participates on Independence Center's committees. Committees include Health and safety, marketing, quality improvement, and cultural competency/ social activities.
- Participate in the Center's health and safety activities (including emergency drills, planning, training, etc.) in conformance with CARF standards. Act as "Incident Commander" as needed. Participate in the Health and Safety Committee.
- Contributes to updating all publications (Membership handbook, Forms, information packets, brochures, newsletters, etc.) both online and in print formats.
- Provide support to the Grant writer, Event/Marketing, and Fund Development. Support via reports, write-ups, appeal letters, and human interest stories to be used in public relations material.
- Participate in various advocacy meetings and events, public speaking engagements, and City and State budget hearings. Represents the agency in regular meetings of specific local and state advocacy groups. Present programs to community groups; develop and foster relationships with critical community and program leaders and organizations. Present programs to community groups; establish and nurture relationships with vital community and program leaders and organizations.
- Recruit, supervise, train, and retain program/department personnel. Provides transportation to members of the Independence Center.
- Responsible for select budgetary concerns, including the preparation of budgets and monitoring expenses directly related to Independence Center programs.
- Participate in advocacy meetings, marketing events, public speaking engagements, and City and State budget hearings. Represents the agency in regular meetings of specific local and state advocacy groups. Present programs to community groups; develop and foster relationships with critical community and program leaders, organizations, open houses, and other events for prospective stakeholders. Ensure on-call responsibilities are performed as expected, including availability during their shift, taking turns on rotation, and practical problem-solving of issues that arise.
- Establish and maintain a productive working relationship with the supervisor. Receive clinical/managerial supervision regularly. Discuss goals and programming needs. Seek help in problem resolution when needed.
- Acts on behalf of the Executive Director in their absence. Ensures that an organization's operations are running smoothly and that they coincide with the company's mission. Provide advisement and work with other leaders on our management team to determine and designate tasks. Acts as Corporate Compliance Officer.
- Provides an evaluation of success. Methods used to determine to include: outreach, surveys, statistics, member/staff response, and observations.
- Participates in the Quality Assurance team by completing quality assurance assignments, making recommendations for improvement, follow-up, and meeting reports.

There are considerable physical demands associated with this position. The employee will have to spend long hours sitting, using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The position may also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.

Requirements
A Master's degree in a human service field from an accredited institution is required.
Must meet the definition of a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts as defined by the Illinois Mental Health Code (LCSW, LCPC, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, PMHNP, LMFT, etc.)
Must be self-motivated, organized, and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Must be a collaborative, solution-focused team player to help facilitate safe patient outcomes and contribute to institutional goals.
Previous clinical work experience in a health care, residential, and or acute care setting preferred.
Knowledge an understanding of evidence based treatment modalities including wellness recovery action plans, illness management and recovery, dual diagnosis, and trauma informed care.
Three years' supervisory experience in a long term care (preferably psychiatric care) environment strongly preferred.
At least two (2) years of experience in direct care of individuals with psychiatric disorders.
