Groundskeeper

Job Description

Job Summary:

The groundskeeper worker will perform landscaping and related services to maintain safe and attractive grounds. Clear natural areas as directed. Work with the Director of Grounds and landscaping on planning and implementation of landscape design upgrades.

Essential Job Functions:

• Collects and discards litter or other waste materials.
• Operates a variety of maintenance equipment such as shovels, rakes, or saws to complete assignments.
• Operates power equipment and other vehicles such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, or other machines.
• Ensures proper hydration of lawns, trees, and plants using sprinkler systems, hoses, watering cans, or irrigation systems.
• Trims trees and vegetation and maintains flower beds.
• Maintains sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other features.
• Delivers and spreads topsoil and/or straw over newly seeded areas.
• Prepares chemicals as needed for application by mixing according to directions.
• Applies fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, plant beds or trees by spraying or spreading.
• Where artificial turf is used, periodically replaces cushion pads; vacuums and disinfects turf after use.
• Performs regular and seasonal maintenance on irrigation systems including any necessary winterizing procedures.
• Installs and maintains specialty features such as rock gardens, retaining walls, decks, or playground equipment.
• Maintains all plant bed and landscaping on grounds for all properties.
• Fertilizes all plant materials and grass.
• Installs and maintains annual beds.
• Polices grounds daily.
• Spreads pine needles/mulch on all plant beds.
• Replaces dead plant materials as needed.
• Checks and monitors irrigation heads and screens
• Programs irrigation controllers
• Clears natural areas.
• Applies Nematicide to areas around the grounds.
• Washes equipment daily
• Assists in maintenance of equipment used on rounds maintenance.
• Develop skills in proper pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs.
• Care for grounds, including mowing, pruning, applying fertilizers, and insecticides, and preparing beds with planting and/or pine straw.
  
  

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Experience in Golf Carts, Lawn Mowers, String Trimmers, Pruners, Rakes, Shovels
• A valid, current driver’s license.
• Strong guest service skills: ability to work well with the public, coworkers, supervisors, etc., while displaying a consistent guest/customer service-oriented attitude.
  
  

Machines/Tools/Equipment:

Basic hand tools, electric tools, wood saw, drill, grinder.

Physical Requirements and working conditions:

• Must be able to work in all weather conditions and SW Florida temperatures.
• Able to stand, walk, and drive for over 6 hours with possible travel between properties.
• Frequent bending & kneeling required to inspect & repair equipment.
• Able to lift and carry up 75 lbs/50 lbs Heavy Work possible up and down staircases.
• Able to use his/her upper extremities for repetitive- (Simple Grasping, Pushing/Pulling, Fine Manipulation)
• Climbing on ladders and working on the roof as needed
• Noise when working with power tools.
• Some smell when using acetone, paint, bleach.
• Must be able to work in close spaces (attics and under buildings).
