Part-Time 20 Hours Weekly

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a part-time (50% of full-time effort, 20 hours weekly) Research Project Coordinator in the Infant Development Department at the New York Institute for Basic Research. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Ha Phan and her team to implement a pilot project that aims to enroll all infants born at a Staten Island Hospital in a developmental screening program that will utilize on-line parent questionnaires and referrals to maximize delivery of early intervention services. The ideal candidate should have very strong interpersonal skills and a warm personality. They should be comfortable in a hospital setting, be ready to interact with families of newborns, hospital personnel and community partners. The candidate also requires excellent organizational and computer skills. Prior Project Coordinator and research experience and / or involvement with developmental screenings are a plus. This is a grant-based position.

Early morning, late afternoon and weekend hours may be required. Schedule will vary per week based on project needs and training at the beginning of employment.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Carry out the recruitment procedure for our Developmental Screening and Referral Program by maintaining an on-site presence in the hospital to speak with parents of newborns, assist parents to sign-up for the program, publicize and promote the program to medical staff and community partners.
  • Enter contact information into a secure web application to track participant consents and ensure scheduling and timely transmission of questionnaires to families.
  • Monitor completion of screeners, provision of feedback to families, and distribution of additional screeners as necessary.
  • Maintain contact with participating families by phone and email to ensure continued participation in the program.
  • Coordinate with other team members on recruitment and data management.
  • Attend community events to promote the program and increase recruitment outreach.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Completion of at least 2 college courses in Psychology / Biomedical / Health
  • One-year work experience involving interaction with people or human research
  • At least five years using software packages (including : MS Office, Excel, and Word)
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior experience working with parents of young children
  • Prior experience distributing online surveys
  • Prior experience managing data
  • Prior experience performing public outreach
