What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Editor position at The Iola Register?
Overview
The Iola Register, a daily newspaper in southeast Kansas, is looking for a Sports Editor. Qualifications include good writing skills and a love of all things sports. Responsibilities also include photography and layout.
You would be part of a four-person news team that has consistently won the sweepstakes award at the Kansas Press Association's annual convention.
As the county's only daily newspaper, we also cover high school athletics in surrounding towns as time allows, though our main concern are Iola athletics and that of the local community college, Allen Community College.
Iola is home to a newly developing state park - Lehigh-Portland State Park - which includes a spring-fed lake ideal for fishing as well as miles and miles of biking and hiking trails.
Iola is also home to the Bowlus Fine Arts Center which draws artists and performers from all over the world.
We are a fifth-generation privately owned newspaper. Tim Stauffer and his wife, Violeta, are co-publishers. Susan Lynn, former publisher, remains in the news department. The Register has been in business since 1867.
