ASC offers same-day joint replacement, orthopedic, sports medicine, foot and ankle, pain management surgery and a cardiac catheterization lab in an out-patient setting. A Day in the Life of Sterile Processing Tech...
Responsible for the preparation, care, sterilization and/or transportation of medical and/or surgical instruments, packs, supplies, and equipment for the surgery center operating rooms and procedure rooms. Including cleaning and decontamination processes. Responsible for maintaining equipment manuals, instrument instructions for use, sterile processing standards of practice, and sterilization/disinfection documentation requirements for Infection Control Committee reports. Assists in education and competencies of Surgery Center staff to perform limited duties in the sterile processing/decontamination work areas.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in maintaining current listing of contents of all operating room and procedure room instrument sets/trays.
- Cleans and processes all equipment, instruments and related items received from the operating rooms, procedure rooms, and nursing equipment from the preoperative and postoperative nursing areas.
- Meticulously inspects all surgical instruments and equipment for proper alignment, sharpness, function, and cleanliness before terminal cleaning and sterilization.
- Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through professional associations, journals, workshops, in-services, etc. to pro-actively keep updated on sterile processing techniques. Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations and remains current on changes. Recognizes implications of applicable laws and/or regulations to the department and implements or recommends courses of action to ensure compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or recognized equivalent required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in sterile processing/decontamination required.
