Essential Functions
- Will work in lab running machines and performing blood draws.
Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.
Obtains / collects specimens for laboratory testing, including, but not limited to, blood, and urine. Seeks assistance appropriately.
Checks test requisition to assure correctness and completeness prior to collecting samples. Verifies positive patient identification.Performs venipunctures and fingerstick using aseptic technique and in accordance with Clinic procedures. Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity.Within scope of training, prepares specimens and performs laboratory analyses and quality control testing in accordance with established Hospital policies and procedures. Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action taken. Seeks assistance from appropriate laboratory personnel as needed to identify and / or resolve issues.Performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, documenting all instrument checks, problems, and corrective actions taken. Seeks assistance form appropriate laboratory personnel as needed to identify and / or resolve issues.Performs clerical tasks as applicable, including, but no limited to, completing requisitions for patient billing and test requisitions; preparing quality control graphs and reports; and inputting data on Lab LIS.Assumes accountability for enhancing own professional knowledge through journal articles, professional organizations, seminars, etc.Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
