Ivymount School is looking for an Adapted Physical Education Teacher to join our team! Ivymount has created nationally recognized programs and partnerships for autistic individuals and other with unique learning needs as well as their families. The goal in all our programs is to help children, students, and young adults achieve their highest level of development and independence. In addition to creating our own education and outreach programs, Ivymount forms partnerships with other organizations and researchers, often functioning as a training site, to ensure that our innovative and intensive approach is widely disseminated and influences the larger field of special education and support services.
Summary: This position is responsible for providing physical education and fitness classes for all students grades Pre-K through 12 and high school credit PE classes. The start date for this opening is June 23, 2025.
Responsibilities
Implement Physical Education Curriculum in accordance with guidelines identified by local education agencies
Plan, teach, and modify Physical education and fitness classes across all programs
Develop and support programs to enhance the physical development of all students
Oversee equipment inventory and routine maintenance
Oversee monitoring and maintenance of locker rooms
Organize and plan end of year physical education events
Support transportation team with arrival and dismissal of students
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field including Adapted Physical Education coursework
Maryland Physical Education Teacher Certification or eligibility for certification
Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other related disorders
Experience creating lesson plans to meet student needs
Ability to work collaboratively with others
Ability to communicate effectively through spoken and written language with students, colleagues and parents/guardians
Flexibility with regard to daily routine and responsibilities
Ability to actively participate in physical education classes and programs and to assist children with movement as needed
Excellent problem-solving skills
Computer skills related to common office tasks such as email, conducting internet searches, using google drive (e.g., google classroom, slides) and using MSOffice (e.g., TEAMS, Outlook, MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint)
School based experience preferred
Affiliation with professional organizations (e.g., MAPHERD) preferred
Knowledge of community sports programs, including Special Olympics preferred
Knowledge and experience with assistive technology preferred
Experience creating differentiated lesson plans to meet student needs preferred
