Job Description:
The Senior Life Underwriter is responsible for total case management of all applications assigned. This involves reviewing applications, examinations, laboratory and other test results, medical and financial records, all documents required to comply with state and federal regulations, and determining the suitability of variable products. The incumbent works independently, with support from the assistants, but also may consult with other underwriters, Medical Director, reinsurance companies and experts in other disciplines such as accounting and legal. In performing the required risk assessment duties, the Senior Life Underwriter must adhere to department policies and procedures and comply with government regulations. The incumbent assists in whatever capacity is needed in the processing of all new business applications within the underwriting team. The Senior Life Underwriter assists in training the agency force by participating in underwriting fairs, seminars, career schools and agency or statewide meetings.
Responsibilities:
Underwrite new business applications and evaluate requests for policy changes for life insurance.
Communicate, as necessary, case requirements, rationale and underlying underwriting philosophy to agents and others authorized to know.
Assist, as needed, with the other Underwriting Department functions within the team, to more quickly and efficiently process applications for final disposition.
Control the gathering, release and exchange of underwriting information.
Provide training assistance to the field through routine communications.
Keep current with changes in the industry and in risk selection through continuing education, attendance at underwriting meetings and consultations with the Medical Director and other underwriters.
Countersign issues beyond the single signature authority of other underwriters.
Requirements:
- 5-7 Years Life Insurance Underwriting
- Willing to relocate to Des Moines, Iowa (Moving Expenses will be discussed)
- MIB/APS Experience
- 2Million Signing Authority
Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is starting at 75K per year, based on experience
